What's After the Movie
Wesley Trent Snipes, born July 31, 1962, is a renowned American actor, producer, and a martial artist, with an active film career that spans over thirty years. In the course of his career, Snipes has delved into various genres, from thrillers, dramas, comedies, and is most reputed for his roles in action films. He received a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male notably for his work in The Waterdance (1992), and won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor for his excellent performance in One Night Stand (1997). Snipes' formative years in the industry saw him in significant roles in Major League (1989), Mo' Better Blues (1990), King of New York (1990) and his fame grew from his role as a drug lord in New Jack City (1991). From the late 90's, Snipes was known for his character, Eric Brooks / Blade in the superhero film Blade, based on the Marvel Comics superhero of the same name, a role he reprised in sequels and the Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). Snipes combined his martial arts and acting, contributing to popularizing martial arts in Hollywood and mainstream audiences, and breaking stereotypes of Black actors in action roles. In 2017, he became a debutant novelist with Talon of God.
