Ursula Meier, a French-Swiss film director and screenwriter, was born on 24 June 1971 in Besançon, capital of the Franche-Comté region in eastern France. Meier graduated from Belgium's Institut des Arts de Diffusion and initially served as an assistant director to Swiss auteur, Alain Tanner. She received her first major movie award for the short film, Des heures sans sommeil (Sleepless) in 1998, which garnered the Special Jury Prize at the Festival International du Court-Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand. Her 2012 film L'enfant d'en haut won the Special Award - Silver Bear at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival. Additionally, the film was chosen as Switzerland's entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards. Ursula Meier took a collective part in Bridges of Sarajevo with twelve other famous directors, with the film premiering within the Special Screenings at Cannes Film Festival in 2014. Her feature The Line (La Ligne) premiered again at Berlin Film Festival's competition in 2022.
