What's After the Movie
Timothy Walter Burton, known as Tim Burton, is an iconic American animator, film director, producer, artist, writer, puppeteer, and illustrator. Born on August 25, 1958 in Burbank, California, he has forged a reputation as a pioneer of Goth culture in the American film industry. Burton debuted as a director with the comedy Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985) and later gained popularity for his works like Beetlejuice (1988) and Edward Scissorhands (1990). He has made a mark with his gothic horror and fantasy films. Famous for an impressive body of work, he has received numerous accolades, including an Emmy Award, and nominations for two Academy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and three BAFTA Awards.
Growing up reading famous authors like Dr. Seuss and Roald Dahl, and drawing inspiration from classic horror films, Burton translated his uniquely gothic ideas into creative animation techniques, marking his directorial and animation style. After graduating from the California Institute of the Arts, he garnered attention with his short Stalk of the Celery Monster, which launched his professional career at Walt Disney Productions. His other notable works include Batman (1989), Batman Returns (1992), Corpse Bride (2005), Big Fish (2003), Alice in Wonderland (2010), and more. He has often collaborated with Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, and composer Danny Elfman, who scored all but three of his films.
