Teresa Madruga

Teresa Madruga (born 18 March 1953) is one of Portugal’s most versatile and enduring actresses, whose career spans more than four decades of film, television, and theatre. Born in the coastal town of Horta on the Azores archipelago, she moved to the mainland to study drama and quickly entered the burgeoning Portuguese cinema scene of the late 1970s. Her screen debut came in 1977, and by 1981 she had already secured a role in Francisca, a film that showcased her natural intensity and ability to inhabit complex characters. The following year she delivered a memorable performance in In the White City, a work that was selected for the 33rd Berlin International Film Festival and cemented her reputation as a leading talent of her generation.
