Soledad Silveyra

Born on February 13, 1952 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Soledad Silveyra entered the Argentine entertainment world at the tender age of twelve, making her television debut in the popular soap opera El Amor tiene cara de mujer in 1964. Her early exposure to the camera quickly translated into a prolific career, and by 1972 she had captured national attention through Alberto Migré’s landmark telenovelas Rolando Rivas, taxista and Pobre diabla, establishing herself as one of the era’s most recognizable faces. Over the decades she amassed more than sixty‑five appearances across television and cinema, demonstrating a rare versatility that allowed her to shift seamlessly between comedy, thriller, and melodrama. Notable film performances include the 1969 comedy El Profesor hippie, the gritty 1982 thriller Últimos días de la víctima, and the satirical 1991 ensemble Dios los cría, each highlighting her ability to inhabit vastly different characters with equal conviction. Beyond the screen, Silveyra cultivated a distinguished stage presence, starring in productions such as The Elephant Man, A Taste of Honey, Griselda Gambaro’s La malasangre, Georges Feydeau’s A Flea in Her Ear, and Neil Simon’s Lost in Yonkers. Her collaboration with China Zorrilla in the politically charged play Eva y Victoria showcased her dramatic nuance, portraying the iconic Eva Perón opposite Zorrilla’s Victoria Ocampo. In the new millennium, Silveyra expanded her repertoire by hosting the Argentine version of Gran Hermano (2001‑2004), where she also served as producer, cementing her status as a multifaceted media personality. Her journalistic acumen earned her the historic distinction of being the sole broadcaster granted a solo television interview with former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, underscoring her credibility beyond entertainment. Subsequent television work included a role in the 2006 telenovela La Ley del amor and participation in Bailando por un sueño from 2014 to 2016. Though she has not publicly listed a spouse, her personal life remains largely private, and she is reported to have no publicly confirmed children. A nominee for the 2013 Martín Fierro Awards in the category Best Actress of Daily Comedy for Mis amigos de siempre, Silveyra continues to be celebrated for her enduring contributions to Argentine culture.
