Sebastian Stan

Sebastian Stan (born August 13, 1982) is a Romanian-American actor. He first gained recognition for his role as Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe media franchise beginning with the film Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), and including the Disney+ miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021). He was born in Constanța, Romanian SR, and was named by his pianist mother after the composer Johann Sebastian Bach. He moved to Vienna, Austria, post the Revolutions of 1989, and later to Rockland County, New York, when his mother married the headmaster of a school in the United States. He was raised in the Romanian Orthodox Church.

In his acting career that started earnestly in 2003, Stan has played crucial roles in popular television shows like Gossip Girl and Once Upon a Time. He earned a nomination for a Critics' Choice Television Award for his notable performance in the miniseries Political Animals (2012). His filmography boasts of supporting roles in eminent films like Jonathan Demme's comedy-drama Ricki and the Flash, Ridley Scott's science fiction film The Martian (both 2015), and Steven Soderbergh's heist comedy Logan Lucky (2017). He has also starred in the biopic I, Tonya and the thriller Fresh. In 2024, he won accolades for his portrayal of a man with neurofibromatosis in A Different Man, and a young Donald Trump in The Apprentice. Beyond acting, Stan is involved with charitable organisations like Our Big Day Out in Romania, Ronald McDonald House, Dramatic Need and Save the Children.
