Monday Reviews & Ratings
Critics gave Monday 48% on Rotten Tomatoes and 58 on Metacritic, and IMDb users rate it 5.7/10. Our Echo Score gives it 62/100, strongest in sensory experience (75) and weakest in rewatch factor (45).
Monday Echo Score Breakdown
Monday balances compelling performances and evocative visuals against a narrative that often drifts without clear direction. The film’s portrayal of a sudden romance benefits from authentic chemistry and a contemporary seaside setting, yet the slow pacing and episodic structure leave the plot feeling uneven and underdeveloped. Viewer reactions highlight both the intense passion on display and the frustration with shallow character arcs. Ultimately, the film offers a sensorial experience strong in mood but mixed in narrative cohesion.
Our own 0–100 rating, built from five aspects: art, character, story, the sensory experience and how well a film rewatches.
- Art & Craft 70
In terms of art and craft, Monday displays a strong visual identity through its handheld camera work and luminous depiction of the Greek coastline. The production design reinforces the characters’ impulsive lifestyle, while the editing occasionally lulls the narrative with extended transitional sequences. Overall, the film’s aesthetic coherence contributes positively to its immersive quality.
- Character & Emotion 65
When it comes to character and emotion, the leads deliver nuanced performances that convey the intensity of a budding romance. Despite strong acting from both actors, the emotional depth is hindered by sporadic chemistry and uneven character motivation. The dynamic holds interest during intimate moments but lacks sustained resonance throughout the film.
- Story & Flow 55
In terms of story and flow, the narrative often drifts between scenes without clear momentum, resulting in a meandering pace that frustrates engagement. Instances of compelling dialogue and relationship tension are undercut by an episodic structure and repetitive scenarios. Consequently, the plot coherence feels inconsistent, limiting the film’s overall impact.
- Sensory Experience 75
When it comes to sensory experience, Monday excels with its soundtrack choices and authentic ambient sound that enhance the sun-soaked atmosphere. The visual style—marked by a contemporary color palette and naturalistic lighting—creates an immersive environment. Though occasionally simplistic, the combined audio-visual design elevates key moments and sustains viewer interest.
- Rewatch Factor 45
Regarding rewatch factor, the film’s atmospheric visuals and passionate lead interactions may offer some appeal on repeat viewings. However, the uneven pacing and lack of narrative depth reduce its lasting replay value. While select scenes retain their emotional charge, the overall structure discourages multiple viewings for sustained enjoyment.
