Sanjay Kapoor

Sanjay Surinder Kapoor (born 17 October 1965 in Mumbai, Maharashtra) hails from a storied Punjabi‑Hindu lineage that has long dominated Bollywood. He is the youngest of four children of film‑producer Surinder Kapoor and Nirmal Kapoor, and grew up alongside his famed brothers Boney Kapoor, a prolific producer, and Anil Kapoor, an acclaimed actor. The family’s close ties extend to numerous industry figures, including his sister‑in‑law Sridevi and nieces and nephews such as Sonam, Arjun, Janhvi and Mohit Marwah, making Sanjay a pivotal node in the Kapoor‑Kapoor network that traces back to the legendary Prithviraj Kapoor. Despite this illustrious backdrop, Sanjay’s entry into cinema was modest; after years of preparation, he made his debut at the age of thirty with Prem (1995), a film that suffered commercial failure but announced his arrival as the industry’s “oldest newcomer.”

Undeterred, he quickly rebounded with the hit Raja (1995) opposite Madhuri Dixit and went on to headline several romantic dramas, most notably Sirf Tum (1999), which solidified his reputation as a reliable lead. Though a string of subsequent films underperformed, critics praised his nuanced villainous turn in Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe (2002) and later acknowledged his steady supporting performances in Luck By Chance (2009) and Mission Mangal (2019). Expanding into television, Sanjay delivered a memorable performance in Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara (2017‑2018) and embraced the digital frontier with web series such as The Gone Game (2020‑2022) and The Fame Game (2022). As a producer, he founded Sanjay Kapoor Entertainment Private Limited, debuting with Tevar (2015). Married to entrepreneur Maheep Kapoor since 1997, the couple have two children, Shanaya and Jahaan, both of whom have begun exploring acting careers.
