Mohabbat 1997

The film follows the opulent Kapoor family, centered on Madanlal [Saeed Jaffrey] Kapoor, his wife Geetarani [Farida Jalal] M.Kapoor, their daughter Roshni, and son Gaurav. One fateful day, as Gaurav returns from a bank, a gang led by Shiva attacks him, but Rohit Malhotra [Akshaye Khanna] steps in to save the day. Impressed by Rohit’s courage and loyalty, Gaurav hires him at his firm, and the two men become inseparable friends who share late-night talks, business advice, and a bond built on trust. As their partnership deepens, both men find themselves drawn to the same woman, Shweta Sharma [Madhuri Dixit], a bright and compassionate figure who embodies warmth and grace. The complicated triangle tests their loyalties, and Gaurav makes a painful decision to step away to preserve their friendship rather than let romance drive a wedge between them.

Shweta and Rohit’s relationship blossoms into a genuine love, and the couple dreams of a future together. Yet danger intrudes when Shiva strikes again, this time hurling Rohit off a cliff in a brutal assault. The fall leaves Shweta stunned and speechless, her voice silenced by shock. The Kapoor family, realizing that Gaurav’s heart is still set on Shweta, turns to Shekhar Sharma [Farooq Shaikh], Shweta’s brother, and urges an engagement that would seal the union. To give Shweta a shot at happiness, Gaurav discovers a lookalike of Rohit, a man named Tony Braganza, and the possibility of rekindling Rohit’s appeal surfaces anew. But a crucial question lingers: is Tony truly Rohit, or is there more to this doppelgänger than meets the eye? What unfolds is a winding, emotional journey through love, devotion, and the impossible choices that test true friendship, described in the film as a tangible sense of Mohabbat.
