Darna Mana Hai 2003

On a night drive through a quiet forest, seven friends — Shruti, Suman, Romi, Mehnaaz, Neha, Amar, and Vikas — find themselves stranded after a flat tire. They notice a distant house that looks abandoned, yet signs of life linger around its crumbling walls. To pass the darkness, they light a bonfire and begin telling stories of the supernatural, each tale feeding a growing unease as the night deepens and the forest seems to listen.

Story 1 — On The Way

Married couple Karan and Anjali are driving along a forest road when their car fails. Karan steps out to investigate, vanishes, and Anjali is certain she hears his voice calling for help. She discovers Karan’s flashlight spattered with blood and, to her horror, a hand emerging from a swamp wearing his watch. As she frantically tries to pull him to safety, he sinks, and a menacing stillness descends. When the car is finally repaired, a disturbing twist remains: Karan, seemingly normal, claims he heard her screams while water filled the swamp. He smiles at her from the rearview mirror, yet there is no reflection in the glass, and Anjali clings to him in disbelief. Later, Neha is frightened and begs Romi to walk her back to the car, but he refuses, not wanting to face Vikas. She leaves alone, and the night thickens with unexplained dread.

Story 2 — No Smoking

Anil, a photographer, checks into a haunted inn where the owner insists smoking is strictly forbidden. When he pleads for a cigarette, the owner rejects him, warning of a cure for addiction within six months. The host reveals a cellar full of corpses and explains that he has cured 70% of people while the remaining 30% were deemed incurable. Six months pass, and Anil, now clean-shaven, works the lodge. A new guest lights up and refuses to quit; when Anil enforces the rule, he shoots the smoker as the owner chuckles. The two men sit together, watching a Tom and Jerry program and an anti-smoking commercial. Meanwhile, back at the bonfire, Suman thinks he glimpses a figure in the forest. The others dismiss him, but Mehnaaz returns to the car for a blanket and is later pursued and stabbed by an unseen assailant. By the time the group reconvenes, Amar expresses concern about Mehnaaz’s fate, but his friends downplay the danger.

Story 3 — Homework

Dayashankar Pandey, a schoolteacher, confronts his pupil for repeatedly failing to complete homework. The girl, Pramila, produces pages filled with her work, but the teacher senses something uncanny about the Om sign she doodles on every page. He grows increasingly anxious as he suspects unseen help. A coworker suggests a possible accomplice, and Dayashankar calls on Pramila’s mother, who denies helping her daughter. He recalls a story about Varun, a friend who died after a kite-flying incident, asserting that Pramila is Varun’s reincarnation, carrying the Om symbol just as Varun did. Realizing how unhinged this sounds, he apologizes and leaves. On the road home, Varun’s spirit warns him, “You are not insane yet. But you will be.” The next morning, Dayashankar’s sanity frays; he is seen scribbling basic mathematics on a busy road in a broken, feverish attempt to make sense of it all. Meanwhile, Amar goes in search of the missing girls, discovering [Vikas] in the car dead with a slash wound on his neck. Amar races back toward the others, only to be confronted in the forest by a new danger.

Story 4 — Apples

Gayatri, a housewife, encounters a market vendor selling apples for a suspiciously low price. She purchases a bag but feels uneasy about the vendor’s odd behavior. At home, the apples seem to defy the laws of nature: they reappear in the fridge after she discards them, and her husband Sanjay discovers one of the fruits and savors it, convinced its taste is blessed. Yet Gayatri awakens to a chilling discovery: an apple sits beside her instead of her husband, and soon everyone on the street begins turning into apples after eating them. The vendor reappears, offering Gayatri his last apple for free, sealing the strange fate of the neighborhood in a surreal, creeping horror.

Story 5 — Ghostly Lift

A nocturnal encounter unfolds when an elderly man, John Rodrigues, stands by a graveyard along the highway. A young driver, Amar, offers him a ride. John teases that he’s dead, while Amar insists he’s joking. Their exchange grows tense as John questions Amar’s fear and persistence. John finally reveals a hidden camera, claiming this is all a prank show, and that Amar is the only one who did not fear the ruse. In a startling twist, Amar removes his sunglasses to reveal hollow eye sockets and vanishes, leaving John dead in shock as the film crew arrives. The group, unsettled, wonders where the others have gone. Suman suggests they check together, but Romi insists on going alone. A stranger appears at the bonfire claiming to live there and asks to hear another story.

Story 6 — Stop/Move

Purab, a socially ostracized student, quietly contemplates suicide until his father interrupts him. An idol in his room blinks a light, and Purab discovers a power: he can immobilize a person simply by saying “Stop!” He first tests the ability on Abhilasha, Abhilasha, and then on other students in the college. Terrified, Abhilasha agrees to date him, but Purab’s triumph turns into danger: a misstep in front of the mirror freezes him, and his parents find him unable to respond. Abhilasha looks on as Purab is rushed to the hospital, a stark reminder of the price of wielding fear.

Ending

The newcomer returns to tell a final tale, and the circle of friends grows tense as the stories begin to echo back at them. An ominous revelation follows: the seven friends shelter in the ruined shack, and after each story, one traveler vanishes into the forest, only to be found dead. The killer, declaring himself a genius, explains that fear blocks progress and vows to kill anyone who feels fear. He reveals to Shruti and Suman that their friends are dead. The killer’s unsettling confidence is interrupted when he senses fear in Suman and fatally stabs him. He moves toward Shruti, who has fled, but the police arrive too late to help. The killer then points to a body, and Shruti realizes she is looking at her own corpse. In a chilling twist, she discovers she has become a ghost, joining the ghosts of her friends as the killer proclaims that there is nothing left to fear when everyone is dead, including himself. The grisly, spectral finale hints that fear may be the only thing left to keep them tethered to a world that has finally given up on hope.
