Sam Seder

Samuel Lincoln Seder (born November 28, 1966) is an American actor, progressive political commentator, media host, and scriptwriter whose career has spanned over three decades across film, television, radio and digital media. Born in New York City to a Jewish family and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts, Seder was the eldest of three children; his father, J. Robert Seder, worked as a lawyer, providing a stable middle‑class upbringing that later informed his sharp social commentary. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Connecticut College and briefly attended Boston University School of Law before abandoning the legal path to pursue comedy, immersing himself in the Boston stand‑up scene alongside future luminaries such as Janeane Garofalo, David Cross, Marc Maron and Sarah Silverman, a relationship that later produced his first feature film Who’s the Caboose? (1997). Seder’s acting résumé includes supporting roles in Next Stop Wonderland (1998), guest spots on popular series like Spin City, Sex and the City and Maron, and voice work on the animated hit Bob’s Burgers, where he portrays the recurring characters Harold Cranwinkle and Hugo. In 2004 he co‑hosted Air America Radio’s The Majority Report with Garofalo, and after several format changes he launched his independent online show The Majority Report with Sam Seder in 2010, a daily podcast that blends political analysis, humor, interviews and live call‑ins, and which has garnered millions of subscribers and multiple People’s Choice Podcast Awards. Beyond broadcasting, Seder co‑authored the satirical book F.U.B.A.R.: America’s Right‑Wing Nightmare (2006) and has contributed political commentary to MSNBC, although a 2017 controversy over an old satirical tweet briefly jeopardized his contract. He remains an outspoken Reform Jew, critic of religious fundamentalism, and continues to engage audiences through platforms like Patreon, YouTube and the TYT Network. In his personal life, he married Nicole Cattell, with whom he has two children—daughter Myla Rae (born 2005) and son Saul (born 2013)—and the couple finalized their divorce in 2018.
