Rikako Aikawa

Rikako Aikawa (born Nahomi Kawazoe on 1967-10-07 in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan) is a veteran Japanese actress and voice actress who has been active in the entertainment industry since the mid‑1970s. Beginning her career as a child actress, she transitioned seamlessly into voice work and quickly became a recognizable presence in both Japanese and English‑language anime dubs. Aikawa is perhaps best known for her extensive work on the Pokémon franchise, where she provided the voices for several of Ash Ketchum’s early Pokémon companions, including Caterpie, Metapod, Butterfree, and Krabby, showcasing a remarkable ability to infuse tiny creatures with distinct personalities. Her talent also shone in the Orange League series, where she voiced the beloved marine Pokémon Lapras in both language versions, and she delivered a memorable performance as the legendary fire Pokémon Moltres in the second Pokémon movie, adding dramatic gravitas to a pivotal battle scene. In the Johto arc she portrayed Charla, the female Charizard residing in the Charicific Valley, a role that later evolved into a subtle romance storyline with Ash’s own Charizard, demonstrating her skill in delivering nuanced emotional arcs for non‑human characters.
