Michael Lorenzo Urie, an American actor known for multiple notable roles, was born on August 8, 1980, in Houston, Texas, and raised in Plano. He is of both Scottish and Italian descent. Urie graduated from Plano Senior High School in 1998 before studying at Collin County Community College. He was later accepted into the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City, being part of the Drama Division's Group 32 from 1999 to 2003 and graduating from Juilliard in 2003. Urie's career is marked by a strong theatrical background, having performed in many stage productions such as Love and Happiness and WTC View. He received the 2002 John Houseman Prize for Excellence in Classical Theatre from the Juilliard School and his classical repertoire includes works of Shakespeare, Jacobean drama, and commedia dell'arte.

His breakout role came in 2006 when he began appearing in ABC's dramedy Ugly Betty, where he played Marc St. James, earning him, and the cast, Screen Actors Guild nominations in 2007 and 2008, and an Ewwy Award nomination in 2009. Urie maintained his interest in theater throughout his television career, directing and performing in many stage productions like The Temperamentals, for which he won a Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Lead Actor. He also made his Broadway debut in 2012 in the second revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Urie's television and film work has continued to flourish over the years, with appearances in Partners, Younger, and roles in Netflix's Single All The Way and Apple TV+'s Shrinking. Aside from acting, Urie has also developed his own website for videoblogging and live chats.
