Merritt Carmen Wever was born on August 11, 1980 in Manhattan, New York City, the daughter of Georgia, a Texas‑born feminist and political activist. Raised by a single mother after being conceived via sperm donor, she attended the renowned Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School before earning a degree from Sarah Lawrence College.
