Luca Guadagnino

Luca Guadagnino, born August 10, 1971 in Palermo, Italy, is a renowned Italian film director, producer and screenwriter. His works are recognized for their emotional intricacy, erotic themes, and lavish visual aesthetics. He started his career directing short films and documentaries before making his feature debut with 'The Protagonists' in 1999. His move into the international limelight came with the 'Desire Trilogy', consisting of acclaimed films such as 'I Am Love', 'A Bigger Splash' and 'Call Me By Your Name'. Apart from filmmaking, Luca has also ventured into the fashion realm, directing ads for luxury brands. He founded the production company Frenesy Film Company in 2012. Guadagnino's cinematic style was majorly influenced by patterns observed in Ethiopia during his childhood, alongside influences from Italian maestros like Bernardo Bertolucci and Roberto Rossellini. His work often involves frequent collaborators such as actress Tilda Swinton, editor Walter Fasano, and cinematographers Yorick Le Saux and Sayombhu Mukdeeprom.

Guadagnino was born to an Algerian mother and Italian father, spending his early childhood in Ethiopia due to his father's work, before the family moved back to Italy fleeing the Ethiopian Civil War.
