Hikari Mitsushima

Hikari Mitsushima was born on 30 November 1985 in Kagoshima, Japan and entered the entertainment world at a remarkably young age. A graduate of the renowned Okinawa Actors School, she debuted in 1997 as a teenage idol singer, joining the J‑pop groups Folder and Folder 5, where her bright vocals quickly captured a teen audience. In the same year she made her acting debut, portraying Shiori Uchiura in the kaiju film Rebirth of Mothra II, marking the start of a dual‑track career that would see her balance music, television and film. Her early television work included a memorable role as Elly in Ultraman Max (2005), and she soon transitioned to more serious cinema, appearing as Sayu Yagami in the 2006 adaptation of Death Note. Throughout the late 2000s Mitsushima continued to expand her artistic range, starring in Shaolin Girl (2008) and delivering a striking performance as Yōko Ozawa in Sion Sono’s critically acclaimed Love Exposure (2008), a role that earned her both national and international attention.
