Eugene Mirman

Eugene Mirman (born Evgeniy Borisovich Mirman on July 24, 1974) is a Russian‑American actor, comedian and writer who has become a distinctive voice in both stand‑up comedy and animated television. Born in Moscow, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union, he emigrated with his family to the United States at age four and grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts, where he attended William Diamond Middle School and Lexington High School. After graduating from Hampshire College with a self‑designed BA in comedy, he launched a career that blends absurdist humor with musical performance, often appearing in rock venues rather than traditional comedy clubs. Mirman's first major recording, The Absurd Nightclub Comedy of Eugene Mirman (2004), earned critical acclaim and was named one of the best albums of the year by The A.V. Club and Time Out New York. He followed with several well‑received albums, including En Garde, Society! (2006) and God Is a Twelve‑Year‑Old Boy with Asperger's (2009), showcasing his knack for surreal storytelling and social satire. In addition to a prolific stand‑up schedule, Mirman co‑produced the influential weekly variety show Invite Them Up and curated the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival, which ran for a decade. His television work spans cameo appearances on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and The Colbert Report to recurring voice roles such as Gene Belcher on the popular animated series Bob's Burgers and the eccentric Yvgeny Mirminsky on the cult show Delocated. Mirman also contributed voice work to Archer and the Netflix series The Adventures of Puss in Boots, demonstrating his versatility across media. Off‑stage, he authored the satirical self‑help book The Will to Whatevs (2009) and hosted the podcast Hold On with Eugene Mirman (2017‑2018). His personal life includes a marriage to set decorator Katie Westfall‑Tharp from 2015 until her death in 2020, with whom he shares a son born in 2016, and a subsequent marriage to comedian Therese Plaehn in 2023. Mirman's career continues to evolve, marked by his unique blend of wit, absurdity, and heartfelt performance.
