Born on June 2, 1933 in Haverhill, Massachusetts, he entered the entertainment industry in the mid‑1950s, quickly becoming known for his striking presence and the versatility with which he inhabited a wide variety of ethnic roles, often portraying Native American chiefs, Latin American soldiers, and exotic villains. His early television work included appearances on frontier series such as Brave Eagle (1955‑1956) where he played recurring tribal characters, and on classic westerns like The Lone Ranger and Gunsmoke, where his performances as characters like Bright Eagle, Monk Wiley, and Lone Wolf demonstrated a nuanced ability to convey both authority and vulnerability. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Hashig expanded into dramatic anthology series, delivering memorable turns on Alfred Hitchcock Presents—notably as Masotti in “Gratitude” and as Marco Reddy/Harry Miland in “Keep Me Company”—and on The Untouchables as Matty Church. His film career, though shorter, featured supporting roles in high‑profile productions; he appeared as a Turkoman in Omar Khayyam (1957), as a henchman in The Ten Commandments (1956), and later as Colonel Valdez in the adventure drama Hellfighters (1968).
