Colton Dunn

Colton Dunn (born June 30, 1977) is an American comedian, actor, and writer who has become a recognizable face in contemporary television comedy. He first gained national attention as a writer and performer on MADtv from 2005 to 2009, where his sharp sketch work helped him develop a reputation for inventive humor and rapid improvisation. After moving from New York to Los Angeles in 2004, Dunn joined the writing staff of the groundbreaking sketch series Key & Peele, contributing to all five seasons (2012‑2015) as a writer, producer, and occasional on‑screen performer, a tenure that earned him two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series. His versatility extended to acting roles in a variety of projects, most notably his portrayal of Garrett McNeil on NBC’s workplace comedy Superstore (2015‑2021), where his deadpan delivery and chemistry with the ensemble cast made him a fan favorite. In addition to live‑action television, Dunn appeared in the cult‑favorite Rooster Teeth sci‑fi action comedy Lazer Team (2015) and its sequel, and he currently stars as Lester Kitchens in Netflix’s espionage adventure series The Recruit (2022‑2025). Beyond screen work, Dunn is an active member of the improv community, having studied with Boom Chicago and taught at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre since 1999, while also hosting the variety show RT‑ES for Rooster Teeth. His early life in Normal, Illinois, and a subsequent childhood move to Saint Paul, Minnesota, shaped his comedic outlook, as he participated in theater and improv during his time at Saint Paul Central High School. Today, Dunn balances his creative pursuits with family life, being married to Jessica Stier and raising two children, while continuing to influence the comedy landscape through writing, performing, and mentorship.
