Austin Amelio was born on April 27, 1988 in Austin, Texas, United States, and grew up immersed in the vibrant skate culture of his hometown. From a young age he demonstrated an extraordinary talent for skateboarding, spending countless hours at local skateparks and filming parts that would later draw attention from the underground scene. In 2011 he captured a memorable segment for the video The Devil's Toy, showcasing his fluid style and fearless approach to technical tricks. His dedication earned him sponsorships from local entities such as No Comply Skate Shop and brief product support from Osiris shoes, while he also pursued mentorship from seasoned Bay Area skater Karl Watson’s Organika brand. Throughout his skateboarding years, Amelio appeared on influential platforms like The Nine Club podcast in April 2017 and was featured in interviews with Transworld Skateboarding, cementing his reputation as a respected rider within the community. Austin Amelio transitioned to acting in the early 2010s, leveraging his on‑camera comfort gained from skate videos to land roles in a series of short films. His breakthrough came in 2013 when he was cast as Dwight, the abrasive yet loyal survivor on AMC’s hit series The Walking Dead. The role quickly became iconic, earning him a dedicated fan base and later a recurring appearance on the spin‑off Fear the Walking Dead. In addition to his television work, Amelio displayed his comedic talent as Nesbit in the cult film Everybody Wants Some!!, demonstrating a versatility that spans horror, drama, and comedy.
