What's After the Movie
Aisha Dee (born 13 September 1993) is an Australian actress and singer whose career has spanned over a decade, beginning with a breakout role on the children’s series The Saddle Club in 2008. Born on the Gold Coast, Queensland, she grew up in a modest one‑bedroom apartment in Surfers Paradise, the daughter of a white Australian mother who worked as an opera singer and an African‑American father who performed as a jazz musician, giving her a richly diverse artistic heritage. From an early age she was immersed in performance; she has credited the daily reruns of Sesame Street she watched in her childhood apartment as a spark that ignited her passion for acting. Attending King’s Christian College, Dee honed her talents in both music and drama, later channeling that foundation into a multi‑faceted career that blends acting with singing. Her early television work included a recurring role on Dead Gorgeous (2010) and her first major American exposure on the Fox sitcom I Hate My Teenage Daughter (2011‑2013). She further expanded her repertoire with a regular part on the ABC Family drama Chasing Life (2014‑2015) and a chilling turn as Jules Koja in the Syfy anthology Channel Zero: No‑End House (2017). Dee’s most prominent role came with the Freeform series The Bold Type, where she portrayed Kat Edison from 2017 to 2021, a performance that earned her a devoted fan base and critical acknowledgment. In 2023 she headlined the Australian miniseries Safe Home, showcasing her capacity for leading dramatic work, and she made history as the first Australian‑ and New Zealand‑based brand ambassador for Lancôme. Recent announcements include starring as Chanelle in Netflix’s limited series Apple Cider Vinegar (2025) and involvement in two Stan Australia projects, One More Shot and Watching You. Beyond the screen, Dee identifies as queer, enjoys line dancing, and continues to release music, most recently the Suitcase EP (2023).
