Raja arrives in Ooty, seeking work and a fresh start. On his way, he crosses paths with Rajasekhar, a wealthy businessman, and ends up trespassing on his property more than once. During one of these visits, a woman’s distressing screams echo through the night, but there’s no one to respond, leaving him unsettled. Rajasekhar quickly spots Raja’s quick wits and decides to test him, a test that takes a sharp turn when thugs—working for money—kidnap Rajasekhar. In a bold display of courage, Raja fights off the assailants and rescues him. Grateful, Rajasekhar offers cash, but Raja declines and instead asks for a job. Impressed by his nerve, Rajasekhar hires him and invites him to stay at his home.

That very night, the strange screams return, heightening the tension in the house. The next morning, Raja asks to leave, but Rajasekhar introduces him to Sathya, the mentally ill daughter whose presence seems tied to the previous night’s screams. Rajasekhar explains Sathya’s painful backstory: she and Kala were gifted artists who argued over who was superior. Kala’s sensitivity drove her to take her own life after losing a challenge to Sathya, and the trauma from that event shatters Sathya, leaving her with mental illness. With this new knowledge, Raja begins to look after Sathya, and tries a series of lighthearted, almost whimsical methods to “treat” her condition. Sathya starts to show signs of happiness and steady improvement.

A troubling episode occurs when Raja forces Sathya into a lake as part of a treatment ritual, though he also rescues her from danger. He later accuses Sathya of attempting to harm herself to frame him, prompting Rajasekhar to take Raja to a doctor. The doctor’s assessment suggests that Sathya’s healing might be aided through marriage to a reliable man, stating that intimacy could play a role in her recovery. This advice leads Rajasekhar to urge Raja to marry Sathya; he even offers to secure the family’s estate in Sathya’s name and arranges the union, convinced that Raja is the right match.

In a twist, it’s revealed that Raja had entered the household with a criminal plan: he’s a seasoned con artist who, with Ramya—who loves Raja and stands by him—aims to seize Rajasekhar’s property. The ruse extends to arranging the kidnapping and coordinating the doctor’s involvement to push Sathya’s marriage as the cover. Sethupathy, Raja’s brother-in-law, meets Rajasekhar and is astonished to find Raja there, a man Sethupathy had previously duped in a gambling scheme. Desperate for a share of the wealth, Sethupathy sides with Raja, threatening to reveal his true nature to Rajasekhar if he doesn’t get a cut. Sethupathy witnesses Raja’s initial attempt to murder Sathya by pushing her off a cliff, echoing Kala’s earlier tragedy and attempting to label it a suicide.

Sathya survives the fall, aided by woodland inhabitants, and returns after several days. The shock proves transformative; Sathya’s mental health improves dramatically, and Rajasekhar explains to her the complicated marriage agreement with Raja. Ramya confronts Raja for failing to kill Sathya when she was most vulnerable. Raja pretends to be a caretaker and takes Sathya to Coonoor for their supposed honeymoon, planning to ignite LPG cylinders to end Sathya’s life. A servant arrives in time to thwart the fatal moment in the kitchen, foiling the murder plot for now. Inspector Shankar grows suspicious of Raja, and Raja unveils a third plan—shoot Sathya from a distance through a window and escape.

To avoid arousing suspicion, Raja pretends to head toward Mettupalayam by train, intending to jump off mid-journey, drive back in Sethupathy’s car, shoot Sathya, and reboard the train at Wellington Station. The plan roughly works until a misstep causes him to wound the housemaid instead of Sathya, mistaking her shadow for Sathya herself. As the police investigate, Shankar follows the train with Rajasekhar and Sathya’s testimony in mind. Sethupathy’s vehicle breaks down, Ramya cannot assist, and Raja hijacks a police jeep’s tires, halting the train with a staged threat about a bomb on the track. He boards the train just as Shankar reaches it.

After speaking with Rajasekhar and Sathya, Shankar remains unconvinced, but Sathya realizes Raja’s true intent and, since she is pregnant, transfers the ownership of her property to him to spare him from jail and further violence. Raja experiences a moment of remorse, leaving the property behind. He then uncovers that Ramya and Sethupathy had plotted to defraud him, and, frustrated, he poisons the drink meant for Sethupathy and Ramya after capturing them. Sethupathy forces Ramya to drink the poison instead, and Shankar intervenes as a brutal confrontation unfolds, with Raja, Sethupathy, and their henchmen in a chaotic standoff.

In the final, heartrending turn, Raja accidentally shoots Sathya during the confrontation, mistaking her for a police ally. She pleads with him to choose life with her and to surrender, not to run. The moment of truth arrives as Raja, confronting the consequences of his actions, embraces Sathya in a quiet, poignant gesture, signaling his ultimate reform and a newfound resolve to live honestly with the woman who has become central to his redemption.
