Ilango, RJ Balaji, is a 26-year-old biology teacher who works at a local school and lives in the railway quarters near the station. He shares a stable relationship with Sowmya, Aparna Balamurali, the school owner’s daughter, and her mother approves of their bond. His father, Unni—short for Unnikrishnan—Sathyaraj—works in the railways, while his mother, Krishnaveni Urvashi, is a devoted housewife. Ilango also has a younger brother, Anirudh, Kishore DS, who is still in high school. The family lives with Ilango’s grandmother, Ammulu Ammal, KPAC Lalitha, who often quarrels with Krishnaveni and tends to dominate over Unni.

One day, Ammulu taunts Krishnaveni, leaving her hurt. Unni consoles his wife, and their closeness deepens in the aftermath. Weeks pass, and Krishnaveni discovers she is pregnant. She chooses not to terminate the pregnancy, and Unni announces the third pregnancy to the whole family. The news unsettles everyone, and Ilango and Ani feel embarrassed and begin to distance themselves from their parents, friends, and society for fear of ridicule. Unni shares the news with his mother, who responds with a resigned outlook, suggesting they trust in God’s plan. The very next day, Unni’s mother creates a scene and assigns Krishnaveni tedious chores, partly because she hadn’t worn her hearing aids the previous night when Unni broke the news.

The pregnancy becomes a public talking point, and the family faces mockery and gossip. Ilango finds it hard to continue his relationship with Sowmya as the scrutiny grows. He eventually confesses the situation to Sowmya, and the couple’s quiet world starts to fray. Meanwhile, Unni and Krishnaveni are asked to travel to Kerala for a cousin’s wedding, but Ilango and Ani decline with various excuses, inciting Unni’s anger. The strain in the home spills over, and Sowmya privately tries to lift Ilango’s spirits with a room date. Yet, he cannot bring himself to be intimate, as the memory of his mother’s pregnancy lingers in his mind.

Sowmya’s mother learns of Krishnaveni’s situation from Sowmya, and she reacts with shock and harshness toward Ilango’s family. Eavesdropping on their conversation, Ilango confronts Sowmya’s mother and ends the relationship with Sowmya. At home, Ani opens up about being teased at school after he stood up to bullies, and this revelation sharpens Ilango and Ani’s realization of their love and duty toward their parents. In Kerala, Unni’s elder sister-in-law and sister tease Krishnaveni further, but for the first time, Unni’s mother defends her daughter-in-law and begins to acknowledge their family’s flaws.

Eventually Ilango reconciles with his parents and recommits to his duties as a son. Krishnaveni understands that Ilango broke up with Sowmya because of the family crisis, and she urges him to apologize to Sowmya’s mother. Ilango, moved by his mother’s plea, apologizes and explains that he misses Sowmya and that he accepted his mother’s pregnancy in large part due to her influence on him.

After the baby shower, Krishnaveni goes into labor and is rushed to the hospital, where Chief Minister LKG is also admitted due to heart pain. Sowmya’s mother informs Sowmya of Ilango’s visit and apology, and she forgives him. Sowmya visits Ilango at the hospital, and after a strenuous yet joyful delivery, the doctors announce the birth of a baby girl. The family gathers around Krishnaveni in celebration, ending with a warm group selfie that captures their new circle of happiness.
