Seventeen-year-old Isabella “Bella” Swan (Kristen Stewart) relocates from sunny Phoenix to the chilly town of Forks, Washington, to live with her father, Charlie (Billy Burke). This move comes after her mother, Renee Dwyer (Sarah Clarke), remarries a minor league baseball player. Forks, a town with a population of only 3,120, is famed for its rain and cloud cover, leading Bella to recall her past summer visits fondly. Although Charlie gives Bella considerable freedom, their modest home is cramped, featuring just a single bathroom.

Despite her reserved nature, Bella is a romantic who longs for a deep connection, wishing to feel as though her life would be given meaning through love. Nearby, dark mysteries unfold in the dense forests, hinting at something supernatural when a shadowy figure is seen hunting a deer. Bella reconnects with her childhood friend Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), who belongs to the Quileute tribe. Jacob’s father, Billy Black (Gil Birmingham), is a close friend of Charlie’s.

As a homecoming gift, Charlie presents Bella with a refurbished pickup truck, a gesture that evokes a mix of nostalgia and practicality. After a series of odd interactions, Edward disappears from school, only to reappear days later, charmingly introducing himself and chuckling at Bella’s dislike for rain—something she must now come to terms with in her new home. An unexpected brush with death occurs when Bella is nearly hit by a van, but Edward’s superhuman speed saves her. She find herself at the hospital, left astounded by Edward’s paranormal capabilities.

As their bond intensifies, Edward warns Bella against pursuing their relationship further, claiming it’s too dangerous for her. But Bella’s desire for him leads her to unintentionally turn her back on his warnings. Complications arise with a visit to the beach, interactions with fellow classmates, and the exploration of Quileute legends hinting at a deep-seated rivalry between the Cullens and the Quileute tribe. The stakes grow higher when Charlie investigates a series of mysterious animal attacks, further unraveling the web of supernatural mysteries surrounding Bella and the Cullen family.

Amid these unfolding events, Edward’s careful secrecy about his true nature becomes challenging to maintain. Bella uncovers his vampire identity but finds herself unharmed in the face of danger. When a trio of vengeful nomadic vampires descends upon their lives, the love between Bella and Edward is put to the ultimate test. Compelled to act in intense protection of Bella, Edward finds it necessary to confront the depths of his nature while navigating a world fraught with peril.

As Bella grapples with the looming threat from James (Cam Gigandet), a tracker vampire who targets her for sport, her life intertwines dangerously with the supernatural. The tense climax culminates in a fierce battle that redefines Bella’s understanding of love, sacrifice, and survival. In the end, amidst all the chaos, Bella expresses her desire to remain in Forks and even contemplates joining Edward in his world as a vampire—however, this wish is met with resistance from him.

The story concludes with Bella and Edward attending their school prom, blissfully unaware of the looming threats. Unknown to them, Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre) watches from the shadows, nursing her vengeance in light of her mate’s demise, leaving their future hanging precariously in the balance.
