During the Blitz, George and Agnes perform as a magician and his assistant to keep up morale. Agnes notices that Alex is in the audience as a soldier, and when George recognizes him, he attacks her again following a raid siren. Wartime backdrop intensifies the strain between past lives and present danger.

1980: Manhattan search and obsession

In Manhattan, Agnes hunts for Alex, now a pop star, while a psychologist suggests reincarnation stems from a lacking element in her life. Scipio, Alex's manager, resents her intrusion and questions the legitimacy of her fixation. The shrink hints at turning the tables, but Alex treats her as a stalker.

Therapy reveals a delusion

A formal evaluation argues that her fixation may be a delusion, pushing Agnes toward normal life. She nearly agrees to marry George again, but memories of Alex from forty years earlier resurface and escalate tensions. Back in life, Agnes reaches Alex's faltering concert and tells him they can be free together. She embraces him, and in a fatal finale, she shoots him and herself in the head, bringing their centuries-long saga to a tragic close.
