The Farm (La Granja) 2017

Nora and Alec, a couple from Los Angeles, drift off course on a road trip through the countryside, their ride turning into a slow unraveling of direction and safety. They pull into a deserted rest area, encounter a rude woman whose car has broken down, and press on in search of gas and shelter. A brief stop at a dim diner amplifies their unease when a man warns Nora that she isn’t safe there. Their path leads them to a small cabin rented from a landlord who feels oddly off, and sleep comes with a creeping sense that they are being watched.

That night, the quiet is shattered when a man wearing a sheep mask crawls out from beneath their bed, breaking the last shield of normalcy. The next morning, Nora discovers a far more disturbing reality: she wakes inside a wire cage in a barn, surrounded by others wearing animal masks who move about but do not speak. They have been taken to a remote farm where humans are treated as livestock. The men are kept apart from the women, and the life on this property is ritualized and brutal—men are killed and butchered, while the women are confined in pens to reproduce and produce milk.

Alec is held with other imprisoned men and witnesses the brutal enforcement—some of the captives are bludgeoned to death, their bodies loaded for a slaughterhouse on the property. Nora encounters women who have been there for years, and one survivor explains that the operators watch their victims long before abducting them, making escape feel almost impossible as the farm’s rules tighten like a trap around every heartbeat.

Hope flickers when Nora sees another woman killed, but it is revived by the realization that Alec may still be alive. Injured but undeterred, he fights his way to Nora and the two briefly regain a tether of possibility as they attempt to slip away across the grounds, dodging masked workers who move with eerie quiet. The escape is tense and fraught, but tragedy strikes when Alec is captured in a trap and killed, leaving Nora to fight on alone.

With her resolve sharpened by loss, Nora makes a decisive move to free a captive named Ashley, played by Jazmín Caratini. The two survivors team up and race toward a rumored bus that could be their only shot at getting off the property. Nora retrieves the keys and boards the vehicle, only to discover that the masked farm members have already infiltrated the bus, turning the escape into a final, claustrophobic stand.

What follows is a grim, inevitable dinner theater of control. The commune gathers around a table, and the stark cruelty of the farm’s operations comes into sharp relief as Nora and Ashley face a chilling fate together. The story leaves them exposed to the next brutal chapter of the farm’s twisted ritual, a stark reminder of the human costs embedded in a place that treats people as nothing more than livestock.
