Arrivals in Silsby to cover the oil well

Clark Kent and Lois Lane arrive in the town of Silsby to report on the world's deepest oil well. They begin investigating the project and meeting locals. The assignment sets up the tension for the strange events to come.

Mole Men appear from the shaft

Two furry bald dwarf humanoids crawl from the drill shaft, scaring the elderly night watchman to death. The frightening sight spreads fear through the town. The incident marks the first direct encounter with the creatures.

Discovery of the dead watchman

Lois and Clark reach the oil well to find the watchman dead and the scene unsettled. They begin to suspect foul play and start to investigate further. Lois glimpses one of the creatures, though no one believes her.

Investigation into foul play

Clark teams with the foreman to search for evidence around the well. Lois reports what she saw, but her colleagues dismiss her account as superstition. The investigation deepens the town's paranoia.

Medical examiner and Lois depart

A medical examiner is summoned to the scene and later leaves with Lois. Clark remains behind to pursue the case and monitor the strange events. The absence of a clear explanation fuels suspicion.

Foreman’s confession and glowing ore

The foreman confesses the well was closed after fear they had struck radium rather than oil. He then shows Clark ore samples that glow brightly, hinting at something unusual beneath the surface. The revelation reframes the town's fears.

Mole Men terrorize the town

The Mole Men roam the streets, their odd appearance and the phosphorescent glow from everything they touch terrifying residents. The town descends into fear as lighting and objects glow unnaturally.

Mob forms to kill the intruders

Led by Luke Benson, an angry mob forms in the town with the goal of killing the Mole Men. Fear and anger drive the crowd to take matters into their own hands.

Superman intervenes at the dam

Superman stops Benson and the mob and saves one Mole Man after it is shot from the top of a dam. He then carries the wounded creature to the hospital for aid. The intervention averts a brutal mob killing.

Second Mole Man returns to the well

While Superman attends to the rescued creature, the second Mole Man returns to the wellhead and disappears down the shaft. The mystery of their origin and purpose deepens as one remains unaccounted for.

Three more Mole Men arrive with a weapon

Three more Mole Men emerge from the drill shaft bearing a strange weapon and head toward the hospital. Benson and the mob watch warily as the threat grows stronger.

Laser attack and rescue by Superman

The Mole Men fire their weapon at Benson; Superman jumps in front of the blast, saving Benson's life. He then retrieves the injured Mole Man and returns to the wellhead with his companions.
