Superfights 1995

Jack Cody is an avid fan of the Superfights, a pay-per-view hybrid of martial arts and professional wrestling. He laments the mysterious disappearance of his hero Mike Rocco, who once gave him a pendant when he was a child. Jack dreams of becoming a Superfighter himself, despite his mother’s disapproval.

Late one night, he prevents a young woman named Sally Wong from being mugged at an ATM. As a result, he becomes a national celebrity and draws the attention of Robert Sawyer, the man who owns the Superfights. Sawyer offers him a place in the organization, and Jack accepts, earning the nickname “The All-American Hero.” He is assigned to train with the formidable Angel, a top female fighter who flirts with him and hands him pills she claims are vitamins.

Weeks of intense training pass, and when Sawyer declares him ready for his first Superfight, Jack feels a surge of pride. In the locker room, he befriends fellow fighters Budokai and Dark Cloud. With Sally’s encouragement, Jack wins his debut and soon rides a winning streak, though he suspects the veterans may be letting him win to protect their own standing. Angel’s advances continue, but Jack refuses to pursue a romance with his trainer, preferring focus over flirtation.

On a morning jog, a mysterious ninja taunts and subdues him after a brief fight. The intruder warns that the Superfighters are entangled in various illegal activities across the city, from drug dealing to murder, and urges Jack to walk away—strictly advising him not to take the pills.

Later, Sally’s grandfather invites Jack to train with Sally in Tai Chi. This new discipline helps refine Jack’s fighting style, and Grandfather also analyzes the so‑called vitamins. He reveals they are a dangerous mixture of steroids and mind-control drugs distributed by Sawyer, a powerful organized crime boss. When a drug deal goes sour, Sawyer dispatches his top fighter “The Beast” to deal with the problem. Sawyer and Angel are ambushed by the dealer’s brother, but Sawyer proves to be a highly skilled martial artist, easily defeating all three assailants. Jack learns that the Beast is Mike Rocco, Jack’s childhood hero, who has been coerced into Sawyer’s service as his enforcer. This revelation marks a turning point for Jack, who understands the higher stakes at play and the extent of Sawyer’s manipulation.

Jack is ordered to throw a match against Dark Cloud as part of a coercive contract, but he refuses and instead wins. Sawyer berates Jack for defiance and coerces him to join Budokai, Night Stalker, and Dark Cloud to extort money from a local Chinese restaurant. Later, Jack secretly observes the Beast rampaging through Sawyer’s forces before being subdued by a tranquilizer.

When Jack returns home, the ninja reappears and attacks him again, but Jack gains the upper hand and unmasks the intruder—Budokai, who has been working with the police undercover to dismantle Sawyer’s operation. Budokai explains that the Beast is Mike Rocco, Jack’s former idol who has been forced into Sawyer’s ranks. This confession solidifies Jack’s decision to join Budokai’s undercover effort.

Sawyer invites Jack to witness a fight to the death between the Beast and Budokai, whose cover is now blown. The Beast nearly kills Budokai, but Jack intervenes and shows the Beast the pendant that once connected him to his hero. The Beast turns on Sawyer, who retaliates by killing him with a stomp to the neck. Back at home, Grandfather suggests focusing their chi on Budokai to heal his injuries, while Sawyer kidnaps Sally and Jack’s mother and challenges Jack to a final, decisive confrontation.

At the Superfights training grounds, Jack faces Sawyer in a brutal cage match with a pendulum wrapped in barbed wire. Jack escapes the cage and defeats Dark Cloud and Night Stalker, while Angel wrestles with loyalty to Sawyer but ultimately frees Sally and Jack’s mother. Sawyer launches a last sly attack, but Angel intercepts and fights him to a deadly end as he fatally injures her with a kick to the throat.

In the climactic moments, Sally turns off the lights and urges Jack to concentrate. Drawing on his Tai Chi training, Jack deflects Sawyer’s attacks and delivers a decisive dropkick that hurls Sawyer back into the barbed wire pendulum, where he is impaled. Angel’s parting words accompany the chaos, and the police arrive alongside Grandfather and a recovering Budokai. With the fight concluded and the city watching, Grandfather hails Jack Cody as a true American hero, a symbol of resilience and resolve forged in the crucible of illegal power and personal courage.
