J. K. Balaganapathi Sivakumar is a celebrated Carnatic singer whose astonishing talent lights up the stage, but his home life is more unsettled than his concerts. In his musical circle, the band includes the mridangam player Gurumoorthy Delhi Ganesh and the tanpura player Gajapathi Janagaraj, a man whose habit of lying creates friction and distrust among them.

During a concert, JKB discovers Gurumoorthy intoxicated and, with a firm hand, orders him to leave the premises, deciding to perform without the mridangam—an unusual move in a Carnatic setting. When Gurumoorthy pledges never to drink again, the show continues in a relatively tense but professional mood. The rift in the band widens as JKB demands a clean slate, urging Gurumoorthy to separate personal failings from professional duty.

Meanwhile, Bhairavi’s family faces a delicate moment as Bhairavi’s grandfather is about to receive his monthly pension. Gajapathi, ever the trickster, lies to him that the pension has been canceled. The old man’s tears reveal how deeply he relies on that steady income, and JKB steps in to reassure him that the pension is intact, even helping him collect it. This incident leads to a stern rebuke for Gajapathi, who is reminded of the gravity of deception and the danger of breaking the trust of an elderly man who values his pension. JKB then makes Gajapathi promise to speak the truth from that point forward, underscoring a quiet but firm moral code within the group.

At a different concert, Sindhu, a music teacher, attends JKB’s performance where he is singing a Tyagaraja keerthana in Telugu. Sindhu observes people in the audience chatting away instead of listening with focus. She asks JKB to translate the song into Tamil so every listener can understand its message.
