Seeking fresh blood to deliver the next shock, the crew hires a new actress, Abby, and immediately sets her against a derelict, abandoned psychiatric hospital. The plan centers on Rohan, the new groundskeeper who will be folded into the prank as the unsuspecting victim. As the first phase unfolds, Emma begins to glimpse the darker currents feeding their craft; her unease grows, and she asks for the episode to end, pleading with Marcus to pull the plug if danger seems imminent.

The team treks deeper into the asylum, their timing and effects designed to blur the line between fiction and reality. Abby is covertly primed to surprise Rohan, but the atmosphere turns suddenly lethal. [Rohan] reacts with brutal violence, stabbing Abby with a letter opener, choking Tony, and slitting the throat of Suze. The room erupts into chaos as Emma and J.D., the special effects genius played by Patrick Harvey, barricade themselves inside a control room and beg Marcus and the camera operator to call the police. The Masked Freaks hack into Scare Campaign’s computer system and lay bare their manifesto: their violence is a product designed for the new generation of online audiences, a disturbing commentary on the appetite for sensational content. Abby is buried alive, and Marcus and Emma are given a cruel deadline to save her. They race to locate Abby, rescue her, and in a tense confrontation manage to kill one of the intruders, who is ultimately revealed to be only a teenager, underscoring the chilling disconnect between youth, media, and cruelty.

Emma and Marcus survive long enough to reach safety, but the price they pay for their ambition is stark. The Masked Freaks impose an ultimatum: Emma may leave with either Marcus or Abby. She chooses Abby, sealing her departure with a kiss for Marcus as she heads away from the wreckage of their former life. In a final, grim twist, the Masked Freaks reveal that Abby was their spy all along, wheeling Marcus on a stretcher toward a furnace as Emma drives away. A lingering camera lens in the van hints that Abby’s influence may extend beyond the immediate crew, leaving Emma to question what she really knew—and who else might be watching.
