A large crowd surrounds the celebrated lawyer Inder Lal Parihaar as he basks in the applause after another courtroom victory. He returns home with a bottle of wine in hand, and without a word his footsteps carry him to a flowering tree, where a flashback unfolds and his past begins to spill into the present.

In the past, Saraswati Parthasaarthy, known as Saru, is a traditional Telugu librarian whose old-fashioned ways make her overlook potential suitors. Her sister Kaveri’s wedding hangs in the balance, and Saru promises to secure a match soon. In the same building, the ex-convict with a hardened vibe, Inder Lal Parihaar, moves in after Lily, the original owner, transfers ownership to him. Inder is instantly drawn to Saru. He ends a relationship with his girlfriend, Ruby Malhotra, and the two cross paths multiple times—first in the building’s elevator, then at the library where Saru works. Inder each time tries to pass written messages to her, but she keeps overlooking them.

Saru secretly meets Inder to arrange a makeover with Ruby’s help, hoping to impress her colleague Abhimanyu. When Ruby, drunk and misreading the situation, hurls a wine bottle at Saru, Inder shields her and gets wounded. The incident spills into the building, and neighbors later misinterpret the scene as something intimate. Saru tends to Inder’s wounds, and the scandal widens as Jayaram, Saru’s father, and the neighbors discover Saru in Inder’s bed, forcing Jayaram to disown her. Saru confides in her mother but asks for secrecy for Kaveri’s upcoming marriage.

Inder helps Saru find a new apartment and even boost her look, catching Abhimanyu’s attention. When Abhimanyu proposes, Inder stays quiet. On the wedding day, Abhimanyu is pressured by family expectations and withdraws, leaving Saru heartbroken. She spends the night with Inder, and the next morning, Inder sees Saru with Abhimanyu through a window, which sends him into a depressive tailspin. After learning from Abhimanyu that Saru rejected him that morning, Inder tracks her down to a monastery and confesses his love. Saru faints; at the hospital, Inder learns she has terminal meningioma. He confronts her parents and is briefly arrested. When released, Saru discovers Inder’s love through messages he left at the library, and they reunite, with Saru proposing marriage.

Before the wedding, Saru reveals a wish to be buried beneath a beautiful flowering tree after her death. Inder meets Jayaram and asserts that he will marry Saru and would even die for her. On their wedding day, Saru’s parents bless the union, but she faints again and is hospitalized. The couple’s joy is tempered by the illness, and Jayram confronts his own guilt as Inder asks for a piece of land under the tree to lay his wife to rest. The moment becomes more bittersweet when Inder reveals a painful family secret: his nanny Lily raised him and once killed his uncle to protect him, a truth Inder took the blame for. Saru helps him value his relationship with his father, and soon after, Saru dies in Inder’s arms, leaving him devastated. In the hospital, Inder reconciles with his father, aided by the conversation he had with Saru.

The scene shifts back to the present, where Inder, now a successful lawyer, visits Saru’s grave beneath their tree and speaks of his eternal love for her, a vow that threads through every memory and every triumph since.
