The school is run by Kokila, who not only teaches there but also studied there as well. The building was originally constructed by Kokila’s grandfather, which deepens the family stakes. A rift within Kokila’s family grows as her uncle pushes to demolish the school and cash in on the land, leaving the building in a deteriorating condition.

To marshal support, the teachers devise an alumni reunion plan. Kumarasamy, a poor man from the same village and Kokila’s classmate, is sent to Kanchipuram to meet the district collector Vetrivel, who also is an alumnus. Vetri and Kumar were close friends in childhood, and their reunion rekindles that bond. Soon they also reconnect with Muthu, now a film director, who remains a steadfast friend. The three men vow to unite the alumni and bring the community together to save the school.

A flashback recounts their school days: Vetri, Kumar, and Muthu come from modest means. Vetri falls in love with Kokila, a girl from a wealthier family.
