His demanding criminal world wears him down, and he vents his frustration on his girlfriend, Katy, even as he tries to keep up a fragile sense of control. An acquaintance within the police, Bad Breath, drops a troubling challenge: a rival named Chang-pau has put HK$40,000 on the line against Lui in a high-stakes race on Princess Margaret Road, a showdown staged against one of Lui’s own racers, Joe, who also owns an auto shop. To cover his debts and keep pace with the escalating stakes, Lui borrows HK$20,000 from Bad Breath, stepping further into a web of debt and danger.

The race night erupts into chaos. The duel begins with taunts and bravado, and Lui appears to have the upper hand as he pushes ahead of Joe. Yet the moment of truth arrives when Joe starts closing the gap and Lui, driven by pride and fear, rams Joe’s car. The win is tarnished as violence spills over—underlings clash and the police raid the scene, arresting Joe, Lui, and Ann, Lui’s younger sister who failed to escape in time. At the police station, Lui faces his estranged father, a veteran officer who scolds him for a life of crime and for drawing his sister into the danger. The confrontation cuts deep: Lui rails against his father, accusing him of hypocrisy in a system that existed long before the ICAC, and he blames his father for shaping the world that made him into a criminal.

Release from custody deepens the danger. Back on the streets, Lui’s underling Bull reveals that Bad Breath assaulted their shop to collect the debt, and Ann has also been targeted. In a brutal response, Lui blows up Bad Breath’s car and fights off his henchmen, triggering another police intervention. Brother Bing steps in with an uneasy plan: settle with Bad Breath, and in return Lui must hand Joe over for the beating Bad Breath’s crew delivered. Lui hesitates—Joe had saved his sister—but he agrees, hoping to spare his sister more pain. The debt and the violence push the family dynamics to the edge: Bull and his men capture Joe, leaving Ann and Katy to rush to his aid. Ann nurses Joe’s wounds, while Katy departs, warning Ann that her brother’s world is spiraling out of control.

Romance, guilt, and a chance for redemption. Joe grows closer to Ann, confessing love, but Ann fears the danger that surrounds him and her brother. Joe promises to slow down and stay away from the streets after their next race, a pledge that is tested by the mounting pressure around Lui and his family. The next morning, tensions flare again when Lui returns with Bull and Fat Dog, and an older, weary anger erupts as Lui strikes Katy in a moment of defensive rage. The clash with Joe’s circle continues to escalate, drawing in the police once more and forcing Lui to confront the consequences of his ways. Amid the turmoil, Chang-pau reappears and pushes for a high-stakes re-match, this time for HK$500,000, threatening to ignite old grievances unless Lui changes course.

A tragedy blooms from a father’s warning and a son’s vow. While Lui is conducting a drug deal under Brother Bing’s orders, his father spots him and a chase ensues. The pursuit ends in a fatal crash, and Lui’s father dies, leaving Lui with a painful question from his father’s lips: when will he grow up and own his mistakes? The funeral brings a fragile moment of reconciliation: Lui, Ann, Katy, and Joe stand together, a patchwork of relationships trying to heal. The family bonds feel the weight of loss, and Lui resolves to quit the triads, though Brother Bing discourages him, insisting that the money and power are hard to walk away from.

Love, risk, and the quiet edge of breaking points. Joe connects with Ann again, declaring his love and vowing to stop racing after the upcoming race with Lui, while Ann worries about the danger both brothers face. Katy reveals she is leaving for Canada, prompting Lui to search for her one last time. A new test arrives in the form of a street challenge from a pair of younger rivals, who crash their car early in the race, yet Lui’s desire to reunite with Katy and to leave the triad life intact remains strong. The pair eventually reconcile, and Lui makes one final decision: he will race Joe as a way to end the conflict once and for all, hoping to preserve the lives of those he loves.

The final race becomes a crucible. As the two groups rally in their respective cars, the tension peaks. Bull collides with Joe’s car, causing a catastrophic sequence in which Joe’s vehicle is sent toward the sea. In the aftermath, Joe dies in Ann’s arms, a brutal reminder of the cost of violence. Bull’s avarice is laid bare as he admits the greed that started the chain of events; Lui rebukes him and the two clash in a tense moment of reckoning. Bull attempts to turn the situation toward a costly standoff with the cops, but Lui intervenes, saving Bull’s life during a car chase and driving away as gunfire erupts around them, the vehicle flipping in a brutal echo of the dream of escaping the cycle of crime.

By the end, the road forward is uncertain but quieter. The losses weigh heavy: Joe is gone, Katy is away, and Ann is left to pick up the pieces of the life that was.
