A quiet bus ride to Madras sets the stage for a tale of memory, ambition, and complicated love. A young woman and her son board a bus, heading toward a new life, and later a man boards the same bus, his eyes widening in disbelief at the sight of them. In a vivid flashback, the man Raghu and the woman Suguna collide in a tense job interview. Suguna learns that Raghu is more qualified and has better prospects, so she imposes a ruse, pretending to be the interview’s manager and telling Raghu that the vacancy is already filled. He believes her and leaves, while Suguna lands the job. Raghu later arrives at Suguna’s home with gifts for her family, pressing her to advocate for him. When a vacancy later opens and Raghu attends the interview, the owner is impressed by his talents and hires him as an Assistant Manager. On joining, Raghu discovers Suguna’s manipulation and, though angered, he is drawn to her intelligence and begins to fall in love. The two eventually marry, with Suguna giving up her job to become a devoted wife.

As a married woman, Suguna adopts a protective, possessive stance toward Raghu, even vowing to end her life if he ever strays. Five years later, Suguna and Suresh journey back to Madras by bus, where they unexpectedly meet Raghu. He has become the new manager at her workplace, a revelation that complicates Suguna’s feelings. She considers resigning but chooses to stay, while Raghu moves closer by leasing the house opposite hers and forming a bond with their son.
