Local police officer Timur, a friend of Daniel, discovers the abandoned vehicle and begins a dangerous search to locate them. The capture sets the stage for a larger confrontation with the worm threat looming in the background.

Daniel creates a distraction at Kowlan's camp, enabling Alicia and Phillip to slip away. In the ensuing gunfight, the death worms surge from the ground and devour Kowlan's men. Daniel fires at a fuel tank, triggering a dramatic blast that kills another worm.
