When she insults him and challenges him to steal from her house, he accepts, stealing her golden waist chain with a calculated reckoning: she cannot reveal the theft without shaming herself. The moment is charged with both cunning and pride, and it deepens the rivalry between Madhavan and Bhageerathan Pillai, who is portrayed by Jagathy Sreekumar.

As the plot thickens, Rukmini begins to see Madhavan in a new light, and her feelings shift as the truth of the frame-up comes to light. A pivotal moment occurs when Madhavan visits the temple to offer thanks to the goddess after a risky public declaration of his love for Rukmini. The ambalavasi Warrier Vijayan Peringode witnesses the ritual in the dim sanctum, even though it is closed to the public. The next day, tragedy threatens when the temple idol goes missing, and Madhavan faces arrest. But a narrow escape brings him into contact with Mullani Pappan, who remains his only believer. The truth behind the idol’s disappearance gradually comes into view: Eapen is the thief, and the idol has been hidden in a deadwell on Pappan’s compound.

Madhavan and Mullani Pappan devise a bold plan to unmask Eapen in front of the village. The plan hinges on a public retrieval of the idol; after a tense duel and a brief capture, Madhavan gains release with Pappan’s help. The village mobilizes behind them, with Nambooriyachan the Head Constable leading the mob to overpower Eapen and his goons. In a climactic turn of justice, Madhavan returns the idol and, with Bhageerathan witnessing the spectacle, the villagers see him not only as a thief but as a defender who has risked everything for love and family.

In the end, the town’s verdict is clear: Bhageerathan reluctantly accepts Madhavan’s relationship with Rukmini, and the once-sullied hero earns a measure of vindication. The journey from petty theft to communal respect is portrayed with a steady, grounded tone that emphasizes moral ambiguity over simple triumph.
