Deva is a post-graduate student in an Ooty-based music college, an orphan who grew up in an orphanage and relies on a friend’s sponsorship to continue his studies. In the same college, the undergraduate crowd is drawn to the campus heartthrob, Shruthi. Driven by love, Deva falls head over heels for her and tries to win her affection with the help of his friend and classmate, Steve Waugh, a comic yet loyal ally who sticks by him through the ups and downs.

One day, Shruthi cheats and embarrasses Deva in the name of love, leaving him humiliated and deeply wounded. Yet, time softens her stern stance, and she eventually comes to understand his true feelings and even proposes to him. Their fragile romance takes a new shape until fate leads Deva to reunite with a childhood friend, Ashok. At Ashok’s house, Deva meets Indhu, Ashok’s fierce sister, whose striking voice catches his attention. He is drawn to her talent and asks her to sing in his band, hoping to forge a meaningful connection.

The path to friendship soon collides with a harsh reality when Indhu accuses Deva of eve-teasing, and the police detain him, thrashing him at the station. Shruthi, furious at Indhu’s confrontation and the way it reflects on her relationship, moves to Ashok’s house and rails against Indhu for her outspoken temperament toward men and her “boyfriend.” The quarrel is defused by Ashok and Deva, but the exchange lays bare a painful secret: Ashok’s sister Indhu has carried the stigma of a traumatic past—she was drugged and raped during a college tour, an incident that shamefully went largely unaddressed by those around her.

To lift Indhu’s spirits, Deva secretly arranges a visit from Indhu’s favorite singer, P. Susheela, bringing joy to her home and letting Indhu feel seen and cared for again. Indhu’s happiness makes her realize Deva’s genuine care, and she forgives the earlier rough edges of their interaction. In the midst of these emotional tides, Deva and Shruthi are preparing for an engagement; Deva even invites his best friend Ranjith to the ceremony and introduces his future wife to him. But when Ranjith spots Indhu approaching, he is shocked to realize that the girl Deva is about to marry is not Shruthi but Indhu, a revelation that shakes everyone’s perception of the situation.

Ranjith’s reaction—congratulating Deva on a “big-hearted” choice to marry the girl he “raped”—unfolds a painful backstory. He recounts a night in Kuttraalam where Deva’s friends coerced him into drinking, leading to a moment in a hotel where Deva mistakenly enters Indhu’s room (room 11) and, believing she is the call girl he was meant to meet, becomes involved with her. When Ranjith discovers Deva with Indhu, the truth of the events splinters their bonds. Overwhelmed by guilt, Deva recognizes the harm he caused Shruthi and Indhu, and he chooses not to marry Shruthi. Yet Ranjith, seeking to protect his friend’s happiness, confronts Ashok with the implication that Indhu was violated and not simply part of a drunken impossibility; a fight erupts as loyalties clash and truths spill out.

That night, Indhu challenges Deva, urging him to consider marrying Shruthi anyway, convinced that the incident might have been an unfortunate accident rather than a deliberate wrong. The next morning, just before Deva is about to tie the auspicious thread (thaali) on Shruthi, she stands up and accuses him of duplicity, revealing she has discovered the letters and evidence in Deva’s room that point to the truth of what happened with Indhu. She creates a dramatic confrontation and refuses to marry Deva, publicly shaming Indhu in the process.

Fuelled by anger and a sense of responsibility, Deva makes a drastic decision: he marries Indhu. As he ties the thaali on Indhu, he steals a glance at Shruthi, who smiles at him with a complexity of emotions. The twist is that Deva had already shared the truth with Shruthi and asked her to stage a reaction to protect him in the wedding, a plan that Shruthi agrees to execute out of love for him.

The story ends on a complicated, morally tangled note, exploring themes of love, guilt, forgiveness, and the difficult choices people make when confronted with painful truths.
