Two con artist brothers, Yipao (Little John) and Taipao (Big John), operate in the city by swindling others. They are cheated out of their ill-gotten gains when they cross Jia Wu Dao, the Silver Fox, who takes their money. After being defeated trying to take it back, they realize that brute strength won't win against him and they decide to seek real training.

They seek training from the murderer

Defeated and humiliated, they approach Jia Wu Dao and ask him to train them, hoping to become the city’s best fighters. Jia Wu Dao agrees to train them, recognizing their potential despite his morally murky nature. The uneasy partnership marks the start of a dangerous mentor-student relationship.

Yipao's progress and discovery

During training, Yipao quickly surpasses the fighting skills of ordinary opponents, signaling his growth. However, he soon uncovers that Jia Wu Dao is a murderer, not a mentor, revealing his true nature. This revelation plants the seed of distrust in Yipao.

Jia Wu Dao's deadly ambush

While returning with the wine, Yipao runs into Jia Wu Dao again and they clash, though Yipao finds himself outmatched by Jia Wu Dao’s power. The defeat exposes how much work he still has to do. Still, the encounter confirms that he cannot face Jia Wu Dao alone.

Alliance of necessity: monkey style vs snake style

Realizing they must cooperate, Yipao and the beggar fuse their efforts and adopt a two-style strategy: Yipao’s monkey-style and the beggar’s own techniques to counter Jia Wu Dao’s snake-style. Jia Wu Dao defeated and death

They finally defeat Jia Wu Dao by using spiked vines to finish him off, bringing his murderous reign to an end. The death of Jia Wu Dao also vindicates Taipao’s sacrifice and seals Yipao’s long-awaited revenge. The scene closes on a hard-won justice born from unlikely alliances.
