Upendra Upendra is a wannabe don who dies in a gang war, and his journey to the afterlife begins at the gates of Heaven and Hell. He finds Heaven’s beauty and its quietude almost too perfect, so he opts for Hell instead. There, he meets Yama Ambareesh, the ruler of the afterlife who can’t decide where to place him because he has neither sinned nor performed true good deeds.
In this limbo, Upendra runs into his father, Mohan Upendra, who is also present, and he also discovers Indraja Divya Spandana, the daughter of Indra, with whom he gradually falls in love. After her initial rejection, Upendra manages to win Indraja’s heart and the two of them grow closer.
Indra, who guards her daughter’s future, throws down a challenge: Upendra must return to Earth for ten days with Indraja, under the condition that he forgets that he ever died once they land. The bet also states that if he commits a sin during those ten days, he will forget Indraja. Agreeing to the test, Upendra and Indraja descend to Earth with Yama and Chitragupta Doddanna.
On Earth, the pair’s bond strengthens as they navigate the rules of the mortal world, and Upendra begins the ten-day trial while gradually losing memories of his death. But he overhears Indraja speaking to Indra, and the full memory of his fate returns in a rush. Yama, intent on ensuring a loss, goes to extremes and even changes Upendra’s face to resemble the don who killed him originally.

Yama cannot decide where to place him

Love vs Destiny
Love challenges the strict cosmic order that governs Heaven, Hell, and Earth. Upendra and Indraja's romance pushes gods to reconsider rules that bar humans from divine unions. The relationship forces the afterlife beings to weigh mercy against ritual. The film uses this romance to argue that love can rewrite destinies.
⚖️
Morality & Afterlife
Yama's indecision—because Upendra has neither sin nor virtue—turns fate into a negotiation rather than a verdict. Chitragupta acts as the scribe of deeds, highlighting how memory and records guide eternal judgments. The journey on Earth tests whether divine rules can accommodate human tenderness. Ultimately mercy and love alter the outcome more than arbitrary judgment.
💭
Memory & Identity
A central thread is memory and identity: forgetting the death ordeal is part of the challenge, and the danger is permanent erasure of love. Upendra regains memory after overhearing Indraja's true feelings, revealing his true self. The face-changing trick by Yama plays with identity, showing how appearances can mask who we are. The conclusion suggests that remembered love solidifies identity and triumphs over manipulation.
