Only then does he realise his love for her, but he still decides to attend the marriage. The day before the marriage, Archana discovers that her fiancé is not a good man and decides to call off the wedding. Archana’s mother helps her escape with Bhaskar. The couple begins to live in a small house owned by Sivaramakrishnan.

Bhaskar, a research scholar in chemistry, develops a prototype for a desalination plant that could help solve a looming water crisis by providing clean water to communities. He hopes to present it to the government, but he faces discouragement and red tape from government authorities and a State Minister. Frustrated by the obstacles, he decides to set up his own desalination plant using the methods of his research. Along with Archana, he goes from pillar to post in search of a loan. Bhaskar hesitates to express his love openly, fearing Archana might misread his help as a personal motive, but she soon realises his true feelings.

Madhan, a wealthy money lender and Archana’s college mate, becomes aware of their troubles and steps in with financial help. He lends money, but his intentions are layered: he is a “business consultant” who profits from exorbitant interest and uses his power to recover debts. As the couple’s difficulties mount, Madhan’s true nature emerges. He fakes bonds that Bhaskar signed, harassing them for repayment and threatening to seize Bhaskar’s research to make a fortune.

When the situation spirals out of control for Madhan, he plants a bomb in Bhaskar’s research plant in a bid to destroy the project. Bhaskar manages to thwart the blast, and a shocking video resurfaces—footage of Madhan’s cruelty—that goes public and leads to an arrest warrant being issued against him. In a final confrontation inside Bhaskar’s laboratory, Madhan attempts to shoot Bhaskar but is electrocuted after accidentally stepping into a water pool that is electrified during their struggle.
