With Jessie’s hint-filled clues and the help of a sentient supercomputer named 3-DAC B.J. Ward, the team begins a globe-trotting chase that takes them from Tokyo to Paris and then Rome. The trail eventually leads to Rome’s catacombs, where Devlon hides in a makeshift lab. It’s revealed that Devlon was Zin’s insider, someone who helped perfect the alchemy formula that turns gold into a powerful energy source for cloning. Devlon’s motive turns darker when his own greed becomes clear: he stole the formula for himself, hoping to profit from the life-extension and replication processes. Hadji, ever the tactful strategist, attempts to hypnotize Zin’s robotic enforcer; when that fails, Hadji calls on ancient magic in the form of living mummies—an eerie escalation that allows the team to break free and save Race.
