Jesse Stone: No Remorse 2010

The film opens with a shocking murder in a dimly lit parking garage, where a young man is shot as he enters his car. Following his suspension as the chief of police, Jesse Stone has fallen into a dark world of isolation and alcoholism, avoiding contact with his colleagues. Concern for him grows, especially from his friend, Rose Kathy Baker, a fellow officer, who reaches out to Captain Healy Stephen McHattie — the State Police Homicide Commander, despite Healy being on medical leave due to recent gunshot wounds. Healy finds Jesse in a disheveled and drunken state, revealing the severity of his current situation.

Shortly after Healy’s arrival, Jesse receives a troubling call from his ex-wife Jenn Krista Allen, expressing that she needs to discuss something after a fight with her current partner, Elliot. In a fit of anger, Jesse abruptly ends the conversation, signaling the unresolved tension in their relationship. Later, trying to regain some normalcy, he purchases a cell phone, with Rose’s help in programming it, and begins to form a close connection with her.

As the investigation unfolds, there’s another murder at a parking garage, prompting Healy to enroll Jesse as a consultant for the Boston Police Department. Though hesitant initially, Jesse agrees, partly to aid his friend and partly to utilize his expertise. He quickly discovers that the first victim had connections to the infamous Gino Fish William Sadler, a Boston mob boss. Confronting Gino about the victim leads to evasive answers, and any insight from his secretary, Alan [Todd Hofley], is equally unhelpful. After a third murder occurs, Stone’s pressure on Gino intensifies, leading to a chilling confession that slightly implicates the mobster.

During a dinner with Sister Mary John [Kerri Smith], Jesse inquires about potential illegal activities involving young women. This conversation hints at dark secrets surrounding the men connected to Gino. As the pieces start to fall into place, Jesse suspects that jealousy may have driven Alan to commit the earlier murders, potentially implicating him in further violence to mask his connection to the victims.

A shocking turn of events occurs when Jesse confronts Gino and later Alan, leading him to set up a crucial meeting at the gay bar Milly’s, a location key to the investigation. Tension escalates when Alan becomes a victim of a hit-and-run, leading Jesse to suspect Gino ordered the hit to protect his reputation and cover up his sexual orientation.

In parallel, Jesse faces another mystery revolving around an unknown assailant robbing convenience stores, resulting in the death of one clerk. As he investigates unofficially, he uncovers more violent patterns pointing to the same suspect on surveillance footage, believing that a duo might be behind these heinous crimes. During this process, he develops a bond with Emily [Mae Whitman], the sister of a previous murder victim, offering her his phone number to report any sightings.

Dix [William Devane] remains a consistent figure in Jesse’s life, attempting to help him confront his longstanding fears of abandonment, stemming from painful memories associated with his late dog and his complicated relationship with Jenn. As tensions rise, Stone becomes increasingly aware of external pressures, especially from former associate Cissy who proposes a casual relationship in the shadow of his fraught connections. He declines, realizing the stakes involved with those around him, especially when facing potential repercussions from the town council concerning his suspension.
