Four friends, Vichu, Varadhu, Vaithi, and Govind, earn their living by performing kathakalakshepam and dream of catching the attention—and wealth—that fame might bring. A chance encounter with an old lady sets their sights on something bigger: she offers a shortcut to riches and directs them to a mysterious swamiji who promises to help, but with a single, daunting condition. To prove themselves worthy, they must retrieve a holy necklace guarded by rakshasas, a task that will bend fate and test their loyalties.

Their quest begins with a surreal trek toward the unknown. Inside a yawning cave, they meet a vivid, sea-borne character who resides in a golden palace, a moment that feels almost dreamlike as the landscape shifts from sea-born splendor to a flowing desert. The journey takes a dark turn when Govind, in a moment of misfortune or miscalculation, pushes the group into a deep pit. Above them, a very tall mountain suddenly rises, seemingly to close in on their tale and mark the abrupt end of Govind’s part in the story. The trio press onward, the air thick with the sense that every step forward is a test.

They follow a jagged path that leads to a hill strewn with stones, where danger and desire mingle. Varadhu grows suspicious and violent, determined to seize control of the group’s fate. He pushes a heavy stone down toward his comrades, a brutal act that reveals how quickly greed can harden into danger. Then a strange turn occurs: Varadhu is given a fruit by the Swamiji and, having eaten the entire fruit, experiences a dramatic physical transformation. He becomes extraordinarily fat and his face is caught in a doorway, a symbolic and comically grim end to Varadhu’s chapter that underscores the story’s moral weight.

Meanwhile, Vaithi grows impulsive and defiant. He resists Vichu and declares that all the diamonds are his, which drives him to push Vichu into a valley. The diamonds themselves turn into weapons that strike Vaithi, and his body dissolves from the cave’s grasp, effectively erasing his presence from the tale. If he ever steps beyond the cave’s threshold again, he seems to vanish into the air itself, a haunting reminder of how fragile certainty can be in this mythic journey.

Left to navigate the valley alone, Vichu presses on and eventually discovers the holy necklace. A rakshas stands as the last guard, a formidable foe who embodies the tests of courage and resolve. After a fierce clash, Vichu triumphs and claims the necklace, holding a symbol of both power and responsibility in his hands.

With the necklace secured, Vichu returns to the Swamiji and hands over the relic. The Swamiji, in turn, offers a great reward: a gleaming golden palace that could crown Vichu as the master of wealth and fame he once sought. Yet Vichu declines. He reveals that his journey has already granted him what he sought—the richer understanding of himself and the world that comes from pursuing a dream and facing peril. He chooses to return to his village, carrying with him only the wisdom of the voyage.

The Swamiji’s telepathic reassurance hints at a continuing bond between mentor and pilgrim: the promise that they will meet again, somewhere beyond this tale. The film closes with a mystic image—a golden cow following Vichu as he walks back toward home, a quiet testament to a quest that changed him and to a future that remains open, waiting to be written.
