Simran, Sonam Kapoor, is a talented Bollywood art director who is passionate about designing sets and immersing herself in romantic films. Her life mirrors her love for Bollywood romances, filled with beautiful dreams and a picture-perfect relationship with her Mr. Perfect fiancé, Sameer Dattani. Both her parents had a traditional love marriage; her father was Punjabi, and her mother was Gujarati, which adds a rich cultural backdrop to her love story.

Her routine takes an unexpected turn when she meets Imran Khan playing Jay, an assistant to a director named Veer, Samir Soni, who is renowned for his romantic movies, though Jay himself dismisses the concept of love as just fiction. Jay’s character is a charming Casanova who believes true love is a myth, and he shows a clear disinterest in romantic relationships, despite being an effective professional. His best friend Kunal, Kavin Dave, often accompanies him through his misadventures.

The story kicks off when Veer targets Simran as the art director for his latest film project. Jay’s dislike for love stories clashes with Simran’s romantic notions, leading to initial friction between them. They first cross paths when Jay is asked to watch a romantic film for inspiration, and Simran is seated next to him. Their banter is playful, with Jay teasing her about her boyfriend Raj, Aamir Ali, and her romantic preferences—highlighted by the gift of a white flower she receives from him daily.

Jay initially dismisses Simran as overly obsessed with romance, and she views him as a careless, unpunctual troublemaker. Their differences spark conflict, especially since Jay often arrives late after late-night escapades, and their ideas about art direction do not align. However, as time progresses, a genuine friendship blossoms. Jay helps Simran resolve issues with Raj, especially when her relationship hits a rough patch, and through these moments, Simran begins to see the kindness underneath Jay’s playfulness.

Throughout the film, Jay reveals his backstory—desiring to enter the movie industry rather than follow his father’s wishes for him to join the family business. As they work closely, Simran starts to enjoy Jay’s company, and her feelings deepen. She begins to question her relationship with Raj, feeling that her heart truly belongs to Jay. Her admiration for Jay’s carefree spirit and his good heart fosters romantic feelings, which she secretly harbors.

When the movie’s production features actors Aamir Ali as Rajiv and Pooja Ghai Rawal as Priya, Simran’s connection to Jay becomes more intense. She finds herself falling in love with him and dreams of a future together. She finally confesses her feelings, only to be met with Jay’s clarification that she was just a wonderful friend to him, leaving her heartbroken. Devastated, she moves overseas to New Zealand for the film’s shooting and premiere, cutting all contact with Jay.

However, Jay cannot forget her. Realizing that her absence affects him deeply, he travels to New Zealand to see her, only to find that Raj has also arrived and has reconnected with Simran. Confronted with his feelings, Jay chooses to step back, but his love remains strong. Encouraged by Veer and his mother, Anju Mahendru, Jay finally admits his love to Simran. Yet, she, torn between her heart and her sense of duty, rejects him — not wanting to hurt Raj after giving their relationship another chance.

Despite this, Jay’s persistence doesn’t waver. His efforts to make Simran jealous through trickery bring more pain, but they also make him realize the importance of honesty. Meanwhile, Raj proposes marriage to Simran, and she accepts initially, believing she loves him. But soon, she recognizes that her feelings for Jay remain unresolved. Determined to find her true love, she attends the film premiere, hoping to see Jay once more.

As Jay is preparing to leave the country, he gets a second chance to confess his feelings when he runs back to the theater, just in time. Outside, amidst the lights and the crowd, they finally acknowledge their love for each other and share a heartfelt embrace, sealing their happily-ever-after.

This story explores themes of love, friendship, misunderstandings, and the courage to follow one’s heart, ultimately demonstrating that genuine love often requires patience and honesty.
