Manohar Karthik Muthuraman is a schoolteacher in a small town who lives as a bachelor with a tight-knit trio of friends — Nassar, Junior Balaiah, and Charle — a group known for their carefree, flirtatious ways with the local girls. His love life has been rocky, especially after losing his devoted partner Kasthuri Suchitra in a car accident, a heartbreak that still lingers as he watches the world around him move on. Despite his calm exterior, Manohar feels the pull of responsibility and restraint, a contrast to the roving energy of his friends who wander the town in search of amusement.

During one such indiscretion, they get involved with Kalyani, the daughter of an army officer Bhanupriya, and their reckless behavior lands them behind bars for a few days. Manohar openly rebukes their uncouth conduct, but the humiliation cuts deep for the group, and pride drives them to strike back at him. They hatch a plan with Pethaperumal [Janagaraj], a bank clerk, to deceive Manohar into believing that Kalyani is secretly in love with him. A cascade of anonymous letters fuels the deception, and the plan appears to be working, turning Manohar’s memories of Kasthuri against his burgeoning feelings for Kalyani.

In the midst of this tangled web, fate nudges Manohar toward a different view of Kalyani. Through a series of chance encounters, he discovers a side of her that is brave and resourceful, a person who can stand firm and face life’s challenges head-on. This revelation reshapes the dynamic between them, and with the support of her father, Kalyani expresses her wish to marry Manohar. In a moment of overwhelming sorrow, he attempts to take his own life in a hotel, a bleak turn that shakes the town and tests the bonds of loyalty among his friends.

The friends flee the town to dodge the consequences of their deception, convinced that Manohar is dead or beyond reach. Yet the truth eventually surfaces: the police intervene, rescue Manohar, and help unravel the foul play that had clouded his judgment. Reunited with Kalyani after the truth is laid bare, Manohar faces a choice between vengeance and forgiveness. He chooses the latter, recognizing that his friends, for all their flaws, helped catalyze a journey toward a deeper love and a more mature sense of trust.

In the end, Manohar pardons his old companions, acknowledging the complicated role they played in shaping his path to love.
