Escape and arrest at the border

A getaway driver and his wounded accomplice, both dressed as clowns, flee toward the Mexican border after a heist. They crash through the border fence but are captured by corrupt Mexican police. The cops imprison the driver in El Pueblito, burn the accomplice, and keep the stolen cash for themselves.

Gringo rises in El Pueblito's criminal hierarchy

Inside El Pueblito, the American inmate quickly learns who runs the prison’s power structure and begins pulling petty thefts from the inmates’ businesses. He uses wit and nerve to consolidate influence among guards and criminals. The other prisoners begin to know him as the Gringo.

The Kid’s bloodline and the doomed transplant

The Gringo stops the Kid from attempting to assassinate Javi, the prison boss. He learns that Javi has a failing liver and that the Kid is the only viable donor, which Javi previously exploited by killing the Kid’s father for his liver. The Gringo vows to stop the transplant and to kill Javi.

Consulate eyes turn toward the Gringo

A United States Consulate employee notices the Gringo’s status and confirms he is a career criminal. The two grow closer as the Gringo and the Kid push to bring down Javi. The Gringo also becomes more involved with the Kid’s mother.

Gringo exposes Vasquez and Romero and gains leverage

To ingratiate himself, the Gringo saves Javi’s brother Caracas from danger and exposes the money Vasquez and Romero have stolen. This turn earns him leverage and trust within Javi’s circle. The Kid remains a key witness to the prison’s power dynamics.

Fowler's men locate Vasquez and Romero and torture cops

Thugs working for Frank Fowler locate Vasquez and Romero inside the city and begin torturing the cops to locate the second missing $2 million. The escalating violence triggers Javi’s own men to tighten control. The situation broadens the crackdown around the prison.

Assassins planned to eliminate Javi and the Gringo

With the threat growing, Fowler’s assassins are sent into El Pueblito to kill Javi and the Gringo. The plan heightens danger inside the prison as authorities prepare a raid. Javi doubles down on his grip over the prison’s operations.

Gringo lures Fowler and kills him

In the United States, the Gringo lures Fowler out of hiding by arranging a meeting with shipping magnate Kaufmann, posing as his betrayed partner Reginald Barnes. He engineers a face-to-face between Kaufmann and Fowler and then shoots Fowler dead. The Gringo’s ruse leaves a dangerous foe out of the picture.

Raid interruption of the liver transplant

Using the Consulate employee’s credentials, the Gringo infiltrates El Pueblito as the prison raid unfolds and confronts Javi during the transplant, interrupting the operation. He threatens to kill Javi to derail the plan and then presses for a turn in the standoff. The raid shifts the balance of power in the Gringo’s favor.

Rescue and escape via ambulance

Caracas returns with two henchmen after retrieving the Kid’s mother, who Javi has tortured. The Gringo shoots Caracas and the two henchmen, while a nurse pretends to capture him to aid the escape. They seize the cash and flee the prison in an ambulance.

Epilogue: money recovered and retirement to the beach

In the epilogue, the Gringo recovers the additional missing $2 million hidden in the escape car’s impound lot. He, the Kid, and the Kid’s mother retire to an idyllic beach, leaving their life of crime behind. The ending offers a quiet, uneasy peace after a brutal run of violence.
