Clarence is an awkward but wealthy young man who has fallen for Alex, a bartender who barely notices him as she juggles the stress of divorce proceedings. To catch her attention, Clarence turns to Patrick, a smooth-talking patron from another bar who can charm any woman—plus a hard-nosed business sense. After Patrick defeats Clarence in an expensive pool game, Clarence offers him a higher stake: for $25,000, Patrick and his crew will kidnap Alex so Clarence can stage a dramatic rescue and win her heart.

Clarence carries himself with old-money confidence, driving a fancy car and hinting that his surname, Duffield, marks him as part of a prominent family. Patrick agrees to help, and the plan unfolds in a large-scale kidnapping at night. In a parking garage, a black van pulls up and, masked and coordinated, the group abducts both Alex and Clarence, dragging them to Clarence’s sprawling mansion. An alarm goes off, but Clarence manages to disarm it. Jade, Patrick’s girlfriend, and another kidnapper take Alex upstairs while Clarence is briefly left alone with Patrick, who explains he uses a voice-disguising device for anonymity.

Alex fights to escape, even managing to break free momentarily, but she’s soon recaptured. In the chaos, Alex kills one kidnapper with a pair of scissors. After this, Clarence and Patrick renegotiate, and Patrick raises his price to $75,000. Alex makes a second escape attempt, clinging to a balcony and then sliding back inside as she’s knocked unconscious.

A police officer arrives after the security company’s call is answered—only to find the house in disarray and the intruders trying to keep their nerve. The kidnapper who is watching Alex reveals his real name, Carl, to her in a moment of tension. An argument erupts, and Carl becomes violent. The officer hears the commotion, but Patrick shoots the officer, and Clarence shoots Carl, saving Alex but drawing Patrick’s wrath. Patrick beats Clarence and drags him downstairs before shooting him in the arm and raising the price again to $100,000.

Patrick orders the others to clean up and move the bodies into the van. Jade is soothed with an engagement ring, trying to calm her fear. Tired and hungry for money, Patrick demands the cash, but Clarence reveals a locked briefcase at the bottom of the pool—only to find that it’s been there all night and contains nothing but a sting of truth: there is no real payout. KJ searches the house and discovers the car’s rental ads and an insurance document listing Clarence’s last name as “Clark,” not “Duffield.”

Upstairs, Alex recognizes Jade’s engagement ring, which turns out to be Alex’s own wedding ring. Outside, Clarence retrieves the briefcase, but Patrick stops him and confronts the truth: Clarence isn’t who he says he is. Patrick is unsettled by the sudden realization that Clarence has known who Patrick is all along. In a tense turn, Patrick is confronted by Jade and Alex; Patrick is revealed to be Alex’s husband. The ring that Jade wears confirms Alex’s suspicion, and Patrick opens fire on Jade, who is killed as Alex dashes to the yard. KJ tries to shoot Alex but misses, and the trio’s chase returns inside the house.

Clarence and KJ clash in the kitchen, with Clarence ultimately taking a weapon and the two of them wrestling for control. A scuffle ends with KJ dead after an accidental self-inflicted shot from his AR-15. The scene shifts to a final standoff: Patrick holds the briefcase, Alex wields a pistol, and Clarence wields only a knife. Patrick, now aware that Clarence has known about him and Alex all along, realizes that the plan has collapsed.

Clarence reveals that he once saw Alex and Patrick when their marriage was intact, and he understands why Patrick would pursue money through Alex’s inheritance. As Patrick prepares to shoot Alex, she fires first, ending the threat. Patrick drops his weapon, and Clarence insists they open the briefcase. Inside is not money but Alex’s divorce papers. He offers Patrick a choice: sign the papers or let Alex decide his fate. Patrick signs.

Police lights flash outside as Patrick exits, leaving Alex stunned and puzzled by Clarence’s behavior—he claims to love her even though he doesn’t really know her. Clarence explains that after her marriage failed, he hoped she would learn to live and be happy again. In a final, intimate moment, he asks what option three might be, just before the screen cuts to black.

With the police arriving, the film leaves Alex to process the strange and dangerous encounter, while Clarence’s final gesture hints at a complicated mix of obsession, danger, and fragile hope for a future she might choose to embrace.
