Two men infiltrate a container from China that holds gold jewelry, intending to steal it. The break-in occurs at night during the COVID-19 pandemic. A cat in the container suddenly attacks and scratches Wang-i, triggering a dangerous chain of events.

Cat scratch sparks deadly turn

Wang-i's illness worsens after the cat scratch, and he suddenly attacks his friend, biting his throat and killing him. The attack marks the collapse of normal behavior and precedes his isolation from others. The body is left as danger moves forward.

Wang-i drifts to the river and resurfaces in Gangnam

Wang-i's attack and illness lead him to roll into a nearby river. He surfaces in the Gangnam District, drawing public attention as he eats a chunk of raw, bloody meat in the street. His transformation signals the wider outbreak.

Hyeon-seok arrives in Seoul

Hyeon-seok, a former taekwondo champion, has moved to Seoul to work at a small online streaming firm in a Gangnam office building. He harbors a crush on his coworker Min-jeong, who does not reciprocate, while their boss Tae-soo harasses her and has yet to pay salaries. His new life begins before the outbreak reaches his building.

Wang-i attacks the building

The next day, Wang-i appears in the building and attacks people, quickly turning them into zombies. The infection spreads through bites, rapidly turning the residents into hostile, bloodthirsty foes. Panic and chaos begin to take hold as the building is sealed off from the outside world.

Soon-ja locks the exits

Soon-ja, the building's renter, orders the exits to be locked, trapping everyone inside. The survivors must seek safety within the corridors and eventually flee to Hyeon-seok and Min-jeong's workplace to warn them. Tension builds as the infection spreads unchecked.

Tae-soo films for profit; disaster escalates

Tae-soo pushes to film the carnage for profit, a move that backfires as the group is discovered and attacked. Most of the survivors are killed or infected, leaving only Hyeon-seok and Min-jeong alive. The remaining group fights their way through the increasingly dangerous environment.

No outside help; cornered in the entrance hall

With phone lines blocked, there is no way to call for help. The survivors struggle to escape but are eventually cornered in the entrance hall. They brace for another wave of attacks as the undead close in.

Min-jeong saves Hyeon-seok with a fire extinguisher

Hyeon-seok protects Min-jeong by sheltering her inside a minivan, then reenters the fight to keep them alive. When overwhelmed, Min-jeong uses a fire extinguisher from the car to save him, enabling their escape toward safety. They press on through the claustrophobic parking areas.

Parkade showdown and a bite

In the building's parkade, they manage to down Wang-i and Soon-ja. Still, Soon-ja bites Hyeon-seok, signaling the looming threat of infection. The pair exchange a quiet, heartbreaking farewell as they confront an uncertain future.

Dentures save him from infection

They discover that Soon-ja wore dentures, which prevents the bite from passing the infection. This bizarre twist gives them a fleeting chance of survival against the outbreak. The revelation fuels a mix of relief and fear as they push toward safety.
