Their situation takes a turn for the worse when they are discovered by a fisherman named Miguel Kaba, portrayed by Barkhad Abdi. Rather than offering selfless aid, Kaba sees an opportunity for profit and demands a staggering one million dollars in exchange for ensuring the survival of Riley’s family. When Eion Bailey truthfully claims that he does not possess such a massive sum of money, the situation turns violent. Kaba captures Riley, holding him prisoner and coercing him into finding a way to secure the million dollars by any means necessary.
Through a series of desperate pleas and by calling in favors from various friends, Riley eventually manages to scrape together the required funds. However, the rescue is a deception. While Kaba is transporting him back toward the island, he betrays Riley by trapping him inside a cabin and intentionally sinking the boat to leave him stranded. Kaba then makes his escape with the help of an accomplice.
