In the midst of a financial crisis, recent college graduate Lance Zutterland finds himself burdened with debt. In a desperate bid to secure their future, he teams up with fellow graduates, including Ellis Beck, Jack, Stewart, Chandler Gaines, and Allie Tucker to steal valuable paintings from some of Chicago’s wealthiest individuals, guided by the shady Mel Donnelly. As they carry out their audacious heists, the group channels their frustrations into destruction, despite Mel’s insistence that they must deliver the stolen items unharmed if they hope to get paid.
Lance quickly develops a rapport with Allie, who just happens to be the girlfriend of Ellis. However, their budding friendship stirs tension as Ellis fiercely warns Lance to keep his distance from her. To further their scheme, the crew purchases flashy business attire to masquerade as accountants, gaining access to upper-class clients and coercing them into revealing their home addresses.
Their escapade takes a turn when Chandler inadvertently encounters a realtor, leading to an identifiable facial composite being circulated. Meanwhile, Jack’s attempts to access Ellis’s phone yield a promising target—the luxurious home of Daniel Wardlaw that houses a safe rumored to contain a fortune. Motivated by greed, the group eagerly plots their next heist. Mel gathers them once more, introducing his new henchmen and issuing a stern warning: betrayal of his identity will not be tolerated.
The night spirals out of control when Allie suffers an overdose at a nightclub. Terrified of the risk of arrest, Stewart callously suggests they leave her behind, but Lance cannot abandon her and stays by her side. The escalating tensions reach a breaking point as Lance confronts Stewart’s reckless behavior on the way to Wardlaw’s estate. Once they arrive, Jack takes the lead to subdue Wardlaw while Stewart and Chandler haul off bags of cash from the vault. Fueled by rage over Stewart’s earlier treatment of Allie, Lance ultimately locks them inside the vault and takes off with Jack, clutching the stolen loot.
Their dreams shatter when they return to Ellis’s apartment only for Allie to refuse to leave with them, primarily due to Ellis’s persistent intimidation. This chaos leads to the group’s arrest, with each member facing lengthy prison sentences of at least seven years.
As fate would have it, Lance and Jack escape to a motel in Nebraska, attempting to lay low, but when Lance awakens to find Jack and their getaway vehicle missing, his situation becomes dire. Left with no other options and destitute, he makes the heart-wrenching decision to surrender to the police, confronting the consequences of their reckless choices.

In the waning days of a financial crisis, the city feels both restless and claustrophobic, its skylines shadowed by the weight of unpaid loans and fading optimism. The atmosphere is a blend of sleek urban chic and underlying desperation, where every street corner seems to whisper about broken promises and the temptation to rewrite fate. This world pulses with a restless energy, setting the stage for a story that balances gritty realism with a fevered, almost cinematic urgency.
Lance Zutterland has just walked across the graduation stage, diploma in hand but a mountain of debt pressing down on his shoulders. His promise of a bright future is quickly eclipsed by the stark reality of a job market that feels more like a maze than a ladder. Frustrated and yearning for agency, he finds himself drawn to a circle of similarly disillusioned young adults, each wrestling with their own versions of the same economic pressure. Their shared sense of inequity fuels a quiet rebellion that promises to tilt the scales, even if the cost of that tilt remains uncertain.
Among them, Allie Tucker stands out as a catalyst for both camaraderie and conflict. Their tentative connection offers Lance a glimpse of solidarity beyond the transactional nature of the group’s ambitions, while also highlighting the fragile trust that binds them together. The dynamics within the group oscillate between camaraderie and competition, creating a tense undercurrent that keeps every conversation humming with unspoken stakes.
The film unfolds with a tone that is simultaneously hopeful and foreboding, casting the protagonists as anti‑heroes caught between yearning for a fairer world and the perilous methods they are willing to employ. As the pressure mounts, the audience is invited to contemplate the fine line between idealism and lawlessness, and whether desperation can ever truly justify crossing it.
